You know as a Canadian watching these events unfold in America...

I am truly, truly saddened for my fellow DU'ers. And I am powerless to do anything really. To help or assist.

NONE of you voted for this evil clown, and yet he is systematically destroying your lives with a vengeance as the rest of the world watches in a stunned daze.

I can no longer keep up with current events, everything is happening so fast it's making my head spin. I catch bits of headlines, try to follow along, then boom - something else MAJOR unfolds.

I cannot imagine the stress this is putting you under.

I am hoping against hope the fucker will be impeached. But then what?!

Pence would be no great improvement. But following an impeachment, there will be nothing left of the trump-trainwreck mandate. So, impeachment might really be a great thing. We just need to get to the next elections (and win!).

But today I feel just so hopeless - impeachment feels like a long way off. I'm going out in a few. It's really too painful to watch.

Who grew up in the USA. I went to school when Russia was the enemy.

I have so much sympathy for my fellow DU members. I have Canadian friends who love Obama and are horrified and afraid of the Trump America.

I have been to 45 states. I won't be visiting again until the USA stops being controlled by Russia. So sorry for America.

This is a country I no longer know, recognize, or understand.

Because of the trump takeover, we are now just another of what used to be called "Soviet satellite countries." Russian satellite countries nowadays.

We now have THEIR puppet in OUR White House, installed by a HOSTILE FOREIGN POWER. This sums it all up. Seriously, what else is there to know?

And every day it seems is worse than the day before it. The GOP hijacked our country and they're steering us off a cliff. All this bullshit just so they can maintain their precious majority. They won the election! And they have absolutely no clue what they are doing. None whatsoever. It just gets worse and worse.

But I have to say my personal reaction is different. For a catastrophe junkie and compulsive dot-connector like me, this is an amazing experience. I'm riveted to twitter all day. It's generating far more adrenaline than I got watching Watergate on CBC!

Your observations are spot on. I awakened thinking today would be a nail biter regarding the AHCA. The first headline I encountered was about Keystone XL followed quickly by Nunes, another traitor, cancelling the open hearings of the Intel Committee. I'd not been up an hour! I'm 64 in June. Two more years? Holy crap!

Please be vigilant yourself in defense of your great country. They infiltrate slowly, through Murdoch media and Breitbart. They come through school boards. They create progressive sounding think tanks. They play a long game.

Guard your CBC.

Guard your elections so you never have a Citizen's United.

Your history of never having had slavery is an immense difference, which allows you to not have to fight the Civil War, in proxy, over and over every 50 years.

Stay educated and pro-science. Canada is really one of the lights of the world right now.

I myself feel like we're backed into a corner and I can't see a viable way out (what will we end up with as President - Pence? Ryan? Orrin Hatch, for god's sake?). I hate to be pessimistic, but I think I'm moving beyond fear into depression which I realize is counter-productive. I just never thought this could actually happen in my country.

It's why - after lurking around DU for years - I came here on election night for some desperately needed virtual company (and of course, we all know how that turned out. )

I think I need some Impeachara.

I have always admired Canada, and I've had a good many wonderful Canadian friends over the years, and currently have quite a few. (Toronto & Calgary) Canada is one of the birthplaces and strongholds of the growing secular AA movement. Your new prime minister is such a class act, the comparison to 45 is absolutely migraine-inducing.

The only thing that is keeping me sane is jazz music and other like-minded people. I HAVE TO stay in CLOSE contact with my friends. This morning I woke up thinking that I was too busy to go out for live jazz tonight, and quickly came to the conclusion that not going out was not an option.

Again -- thanks for the hand of support inanna. It means a great deal right now.

Vlad's been attacking Democracy. Worldwide. I would not doubt that he's got little programs running aimed at Canada, but perhaps you guys have less of a percentage population of Ignorant Racist Programmables.

Lashback. Lashback. Vlad's gotta fear it. Because if we ever manage to stand up again after getting knocked down by Local Traitors paid by Russian Mobsters, I can guarantee you the consequences for Vlad will be $%@# permanent.

I never hated Russia before, not even at the height of the Cold War.

But I do now. I do now. And I'm looking for serious payback. Until the day I die, I'm advocating loudly for Serious Payback.

Because I love the Idea of America. Because I'm a patriot, and a devotee of a human future based on reason and fairness.

Serious Payback. Vlad should be really, really nervous. I'm certain that how I feel is shared by many, many intelligent and thoughtful people.

We truly appreciate and love our friends in Canada! You are right! It is an emotional rollercoaster! We do just keep waiting for the next bit of news that will either finally plunge a stake into this heartless tyrant or that more damage is being done to our democracy. It's like living in alternate reality! You just can't believe this shit is actually happening. Thanks again for your words of compassion!

And yeah, I feel the same thing all the time.

I was stressed out under Harper for his anti-science, opaque, authoritarian Parliament, but Trump makes Harper look like Churchill.

I'm gay, and my husband comes to Canada from Texas, where his family still lives. I feel pretty helpless to do anything for any of them (none of the immediate family are Trumpets).

Thanks for your support and thoughts. I believe we'll survive quite well, ending up far stronger and better than ever. Something like Trump and his gangsters won't bring this country down.

Being 68 years old I've lived through some incredible times and am still doing so. It all makes us better in the end.
