GOP is hoisted on its own petard on healthcare.

It's obvious they mislead and over-promised to their constituents in their quest to de-legitimize America's first black president. But it is also the gerrymandering that is biting them in the ass now. That Meadows dude? the leader of the "Freedom" Caucus who is holding Trumpcare hostage now? He's from gerrymandered NC cong. district 11.

Here is what it used to looked like in 2013 when it was a center-right swing district:

After the 2010 GOP redistricting:

Current, after the court ordered change due to racial gerrymandering:

Meadows is dist. 11, the pointy bit in the Blue Ridge Mountains that abuts Tennessee and SC. It used to be a competitive district that encompassed some of the most conservative AND most liberal areas in the state. The rural parts are white and VERY conservative. City of Asheville is also white, but VERY progressive. When the cut Asheville out of the district, they created RW 'safe' GOP seat that is so safe, they don't need the GOP anymore. Meadows and his ilk can disrupt to their heart's content and no one can make them stop. GOP did it to themselves.

The courts forced the NC GA to re-draw some of our congressional districts because they used race a factor and violated Voting Rights Act. But the Blue Ridge is nearly all white, so Meadows' district is untouched. Seems like more moderate GOPers might see the error of their ways now? Or maybe the courts will step in and make a sane ruling that limits partisan gerrymandering so our government can function again. It's insane that a small group like that, complete unrepresentative of the voters as a whole, can break the system for everyone. 'Undemocratic' is the word I am reaching for, I guess. Maybe even the saner GOP hacks can see that now. Or the courts. Oh well, up to them now. We tried to warn them....
