The Republican intelligence chairman got a message and jumped out of an Uber. The next morning he made a bombshell claim based on classified information.
Hours before the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee announced his shocking claims about surveillance of the Trump transition team on Wednesday morning, he practically disappeared.
Rep. Devin Nunes was traveling with a senior committee staffer in an Uber on Tuesday evening when he received a communication on his phone, three committee officials and a former national security official with ties to the committee told The Daily Beast. After the message, Nunes left the car abruptly, leaving his own staffer in the dark about his whereabouts.
By the next morning, Nunes hastily announced a press conference. His own aides, up to the most senior level, did not know what their boss planned to say next. Nunes choice to keep senior staff out of the loop was highly unusual.
The Republican chairman had a bombshell to drop.

(8,698 posts)Devin Nunes: A Russian Connection Too?
DevinNunes
russianconnection
OK, this seems far-fetched and tenuous, but who wouldnt have thought a Russian invasion of a US election and association with a US President was far-fetched and tenuous less than a year ago? As a further caveat to this diary, I should also say I havent a clue who/what the source of this story is.
First, according to his 2014 financial disclosure report and reported in the LA Times, nearly all of Devin Nunes entire net worth of about $51,000 is apparently tied up in an investment in the Alpha Omega WInery of St. Helena, CA.
As reported in Addicting Info (the source I know nothing about), with distributors across the US, Canada and Mexico, this winery has few distributors worldwide and only two in other western countries, namely Switzerland and Russia. The author of the piece in Addicting Info makes the point that there is no distributor in a NATO country in Europe.
From googling, I have not been able to find much information in depth about the Russian distributor, the Luding Trade Company. Nor does there seem to be any suspicious information about the Alpha Omega Winery or its founders. So for now this is likely a random factoid, and its possible everyone in Congress, Democrat and Republican, could be linked in some way to Russia. But it sure seems that such a connection might be a prerequisite for those in the Trump orbit.
Again, for what its worth.

BUT CHECK OUT THIS STORY ON Alpha Omega yacht with under age prostitutes
A former Napa Valley winery employee alleges that in August 2015 she was assigned to work on a company yacht where men had sex with call girls while the group cruised the San Francisco Bay, according to court records.
The former tasting room attendant at Alpha Omega Winery LLC in Rutherford, Alene Anase, said that on Aug. 12, 2015, she was on the yacht for the private event when about 25 men boarded the USS Alpha Omega at Pier 41 in San Francisco, according to the lawsuit, which is being settled out of court. The men, who had won the cruise at a charity fundraiser, came with a group of prostitutes, the complaint alleged.
Anase, a Walnut Creek resident, said she was extremely disturbed by the presence of the prostitutes, especially because it appeared that some of the girls were too young to consent to sexual activity, according to the complaint filed in Napa County Superior Court.
Anase and a co-worker assigned to the 32-foot yacht with her that day called the winery by cell phone, according to the court filing. But instead of ordering the captain to turn the yacht around and return the two employees to safety, Anase was told to simply lie low and try to do as little as possible in order to avoid harassment, according to the lawsuit. The men involved in the alleged incident are referred as Doe Defendants.

"Where were you, Mr. Nunes, on the evening of Aug. 12, 2015?"
Let's haul out those tax returns.

It has several bits of info, like he is, on paper, a "limited owner" for the winery. He had a mortgage at one point and now owns and rents a condo out in his district. Click thru the various PDF links.
