But obviously, Republicans couldn't keep their caucus together sufficiently to pass their monstrosity without Democratic help. If Ryan had gone through the embarrassment of a vote, it's possible that the "No" vote would have cascaded. Once the Nos got to 218, a bunch of the waverers would have jumped on the majority (to protect themselves from their angry constituents) and the bill would have gone down with 300 or more no votes.

Pulling the bill was really Ryan's only choice, and he'll say whatever he can to save face.

3. My guess is the reason they pulled it without a vote

was because they weren't nearly as close as they wanted the people to believe and wanted to save as much face as possible. Gutless losers.
This way they didn't have to risk losing a crapload of their house seats to angry constituents and all these damned republicans could "claim" they were going to vote against the repeal and there would be no official vote count.
No accountability.
Which is exactly what this anti-humanity party of NO (no ideas, no courage, no character) thrives on...
No anything.
