(22,911 posts)Reince Priebus signed on as First Mate. Ted Cruz did kiss kiss, let's make up. Paul Ryan lusted for Trump's signature on his pieces of legislation and quietly fell in line. Even Mitt Romney soiled himself with his interview for Secretary of State. There are just a small handful of nationally well known Republican leaders who openly kept their distance from Trump. The Bush clan, John Kasich, umm, umm... the mind goes blank. McCain may mumble now and then but he reliably stays silent when it really counts. Almost every Republican of any national stature now has Trump smeared on their face.
If this all breaks open like it appears it will, the Republican Party will be going down with the Trump Ship of State. None of them can claim that they weren't warned.

(1,680 posts)The real and maybe only way they could take care of him would be to spirit him out of the US and give him asylum in Russia.
So the two possible scenarios are asylum in Moscow vs. flipping, avoiding jail, and living in the US. In either scenario he would be exposed as a traitor. If he were to go to Russia to live, he would be able to avoid directly facing the contempt of his countrymen. If he were to stay in the US, he would face direct contempt everywhere he would go.
It would boil down to his asking "In what country do I want to live as a pariah?"

That is, there will be a renaissance of American focus on ethics, honesty, and integrity. That we will better understand how and why the love of money is the root of all evil. Who knows, maybe we the people can find a way to reverse the Citizens United ruling that allows the wealthy to buy elections and politicians.

(985 posts)Days before he got busted for the Russia calls, Flynn leaked that Trump had called him at 3AM to ask about whether a strong dollar was better than a weak dollar. Trump couldn't have been happy that Flynn spread that story and Flynn probably wouldn't have spread it unless he was frustrated with Drumpf.
underthematrix
(5,811 posts)The United States of America suffered a CATASTROPHIC bloodless attack by a foreign government: Russia. We now have Russian assets, agents, and spies in control of two branches of the federal government. the Executive and Legislative branches. This means when the FBI's counterintelligence division executes their many many many warrants, most of Trump's team if not all of them will be removed along with a significant number of GOP House members and US senators. It may also mean the arrests of some individuals in state government at the executive level.
Since Trump was put into office by a foreign power and therefore is illegitimate, it means President Obama is still president.
Because the number of arrests at the federal level will be staggering, it's important that we still have a functioning government. I think President Obama will return to provide a calm steady hand and map out and implement a time certain plan to elect a new president, probably to coincide with other federal elections in 2018.
I think the feds will seize and freeze Trump's assets.

(13,616 posts)Until such time as there is something concrete, I think we need to be careful pursuing these tidbits of tasty news confections. The fact is, we have no idea who is going to flip, or even if said flipping will actually mean anything. At this point you could have Donald Trump publicly swear fealty to Vladimir Putin, announced that we are going to become part of the Russian Confederation, and there will be contingent that goes along with it, especially if it means lower taxes, and that they get to go ahead and oppress brown people and women.
I'm not trying to discourage hope, nor am I denying the fact that the Trump ship is rapidly filling with water. Somebody is going to need to tell because they know that they will be thrown under the bus if they don't, especially by Donald Trump, whose ideal of loyalty is nonexistent. However, none of this should distract us from the only thing that is worked, direct pressure on Congress. Congress is already working on its post Trump future: Paul Ryan, Mike pence, and Mitch McConnell all already warming up in the bullpen, and the billionaires are fully prepared to throw as much going as they need to to make the American people swallow it. Until such time as someone says a clear yes, and frankly, until such time a person is protected to where we don't somehow accidentally hang themselves in a jail cell, or where a convenient "lone gunman" cannot play the role of Lee Harvey Oswald, we do not have enough rope to hang Donald Trump.
