Chuck Schumer: Democrats Could Work With Trump If He Ditches His Hard-Right Policies

Chuck Schumer: Democrats Could Work With Trump If He Ditches His Hard-Right Policies

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/chuck-schumer-trump_us_58d7cf6fe4b03787d3596b57?

“The president campaigned as a populist against the Democratic and Republican establishments,” Schumer said on ABC’s “This Week.” “He ran as a defender of the middle class. The minute he got into office, maybe led by Vice President [Mike] Pence or some of the others, he moved so far to the hard right that it’s virtually impossible for us to work with him.”

“If he changes, he could have a different presidency, but he’s going to have to tell the Freedom Caucus and the hard-right special wealthy interests who are dominating his presidency,” Schumer added.

He said that Democrats will “certainly look at his proposals” if Trump ditches the policies that have been a hallmark of his presidency so far, noting that any future support would be “guided by our values.”

Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.), the head of the House Freedom Caucus, said Republicans need Schumer to be a “willing partner” on repealing and replacing the Affordable Care Act. Schumer, however, stated clearly that any legislation that repeals the health care law is a nonstarter for Democrats.

Saw another thread where Trump may bump the Freedom Caucus which means he has to have Dem votes. Hold him out Chuck. Stall for as long as possible and water everything down.

1). Schumer KNOWS it is NOT Trump's first instinct to "ditch his hard right policies"

2). Trump whined that a bill would have passed if he had some help from the Dems, who he did not ask for help.

3). Trump took another shot at Dems, saying they were "smiling" over this.

4). Schumer steps up immediately and says "You want help? HERE'S how we'll help."

And yeah, Trump WOULD have to part ways with the Freedom Caucas, because NO Democrat will sign off on any PART of their agenda.

Ball's in your court, shithead.

Trump must realize how demented the Freedom Caucus is. Totally unrelenting and they really think they have a seat at the table.

Trump doesn't give a shit about health care. All he wants is something - anything - in his "win" column. If a single-payer bill could be put up for a vote, all Dems would vote for it and Republicans with their lips permanently affixed to Trump's ass would vote for it. There would be a side benefit that Dems would know Dems caused it to happen and most of the GOP would be pissed off as hell and might stay away from the polls.
