Because he knows it's just a matter of time that evidence comes out that he was the target of a FISA wiretap. His only defense when that happens is, "See, I told you so! I told you that Obama was surveilling me!" That is all his supporters need to hear. In their eyes, he will be vindicated. It doesn't matter how guilty he may be - so long as his supporters believe he was set up by Barack Obama. He is planting the seeds of doubt as a precautionary defense.

Obama was born in the US and he didn't apologize. He expects these things to go away. For a reality t.v. celebrity, he sure doesn't seem to know much about audio/video recordings and even when confronted says "are you going to believe me or your lying eyes?".
