Gov. Gary Herbert signed legislation Thursday that will lower the legal blood alcohol level from .08 to .05 for drivers.
To put that into perspective, a 160-pound man could blow a .05 after drinking two beers. And a 120-pound woman would be pretty close to the legal limit after just one drink.
Before signing the law, Herbert told reporters he believes it will help keep dangerous drivers off Utah's roads and prevent drunken driving accidents.

How is reversing the genders "elitist"?

(2,955 posts)This new law isn't based on any kind of science. It's all about the Mormons continually trying to drive nonbelievers out of the state. All of the public here strongly opposed this with the exception of actively practicing Mormons. Guess who our governor sided with? Separation of church and state doesn't exist in Utardia.

(2,955 posts)Then Utardia wouldn't be trying to remove the safety inspection requirement for cars, they would ban texting while driving and they wouldn't have just passed a law allowing 18 year olds to conceal carry. This is about the ongoing culture war being waged against non Mormons in the state.

You totally nailed it. The staggering hypocrisy of conservative Christian control freaks - not just in Utah but everywhere - is obvious and infuriating.

(2,857 posts)Very rarely would I have a glass of wine after dinner. The last bottle I bought was before Christmas and I've not opened it yet.
I don't believe anyone should drive if they have had anything to drink. Sorry, but not really sorry. Too many people don't know when to say no, so it's safer to go with no drinks being ok

People who drink and drive ARE a problem. Period.

As it was, I was forced to deal with the shitty or nonexistent crony-based cab company service that we're continually told "real" progressives are supposed to be in favor of.
