http://www.esquire.com/news-politics/politics/news/a54171/sally-yates-testify-house-intelligence/So why did Nunes simply cancel the committee hearing instead? That's where Ms. Yates' poker skills come into play. As you can see from the correspondence, Yates and her legal team explained to the White House lawyers that they didn't accept that she was bound by any claim of privilege, and that she was going to testify anyway, damn the torpedoes. At which point, the White House, and its hapless Night Stalker Devin Nunes, folded like cheap suits and canceled the hearings entirely...
The administration really had no choice. They could let Yates testify, in which case anything could happen. Or they could go to court and stop her, and look even more like they're trying to bury what she knows. (Maybe they could have sent federal marshals into the committee room to stop her. That would've been great TV!) Or they could duck and let Nunes take this in the face, which is pretty much what they did, because it's always Someone Else's Fault with this bunch...
Somewhere out there is the independent counsel that we need to get to the bottom of this murk and mire. I hear Sally Yates might be looking for work.

(11,996 posts)to check with them, but to check with the WH about "privilege".
The WH does not object to her testifying.
Nunes cancels the hearing.
Weird. But where is the poker playing analogy coming into it?

(21,088 posts)But they folded before it became a major confrontation. In the poker analogy, there was only one round of betting as far as I can tell. They bet, she raised, they folded.
Weak sisters with a weak hand. Sad!

(11,996 posts)Was there some meeting we (I) don't know about?
Was the bluff via the DOJ?

(8,138 posts)You are saying that the WH didn't resist her testimony?
jmg257
(11,996 posts)a letter, or a ?? where they were asserting privilege.
It is a key point in those ongoing story about Yates' testimony, yet I have not seen a source for that assertion.
Do you have one?
MGKrebs
(8,138 posts)then no.
But the DOJ (Jeff Sessions) throws up a couple of lame hurdles which Team Yates quickly overcomes and so the DOJ then defers to the WH. Coincidentally, WH minion Nunes cancels the testimony at that same moment.
Many would connect those dots.

(11,996 posts)that was he did (cancel).
