Group plans to put up billboards shaming any member of Congress who voted against net privacy rules

Republicans have already voted to do away with the net privacy protections put in during the Obama administration. Now the fate of some of the last of our online privacy depends on an equally Republican House. But there are some activists who want to make sure that a vote against American citizens’ privacy rights is a vote for being publicly shamed. The threat, amongst other things, is to post the names of legislators who vote against net privacy rules under the heading of “They Betrayed You” on billboards.

The billboards are just the beginning of a campaign to target members of Congress who sided with broadband providers over everyday citizens in the privacy vote, said Evan Green, campaign director at Fight for the Future.

“Congress should know by now that when you come for the internet, the internet comes for you,” Greer said in a statement. “People from across the political spectrum are outraged, and every lawmaker who votes to take away our privacy will regret it come election day.”

Considering that there are definitely far too many lawmakers who haven’t got the foggiest idea of how the internet actually functions, it’s going to be a tough push to get them to do the right thing.

It'd be better if they bought their internet history and posted it on a billboard Jonny Appleseed Mar 2017 #1

so they get it...

Organized groups of child predators are in the market to buy your pre-teens browser history looking for children to "contact" and "make friends with".

Not that I'm aware than any such organized groups even exist.

They're going to hit us on as many fronts as they can so we can't fight as hard on everything. Good to see activism on our side, bringing ethics complaints, song tRump, etc.

Capitalism. It is all for the money at the top. It in NO-WAY benefits the user. NONE!

I am calling my ISP tomorrow and make sure they won't play along with this crap. If they do play along, there must be an opt-out option.
