This site has allowed for the support of an Independent over a Democrat in the past(not talking recently) . I was furious over it but it did happen.

(714 posts)I have voted Dem since I was 18. I have had reservations about candidates, but the fact of the matter is that I will not vote for ANYONE who wants to put us into a non-defensive war. I won't vote R. Ever. Never ever. I want to vote Dem, and I mostly think that the Democrat party aligns with my values. But as a queer disabled veteran, they don't always.
So I also make no promises, but due to my life experiences, I will likely always vote Democrat.

(42,862 posts)I support DEMOCRATS and ONLY DEMOCRATS. Democrats FIRST! NO SUBSTITUTIONS! Non-Democrats need not apply for my affections or attention.
In partisan races, I look for the "D" after the candidate's name... and I'm proud to say it too!
No "D" ... no vote from me!
Period.
End of discussion.
No exceptions.

(53,866 posts)Let's look at Joe Manchin. He is too liberal to pass the GOP primary in WV. Should we primary him, we will get stuck with a FAR more conservative candidate. Rather have Joe who votes with the Democrats 80% of the time, than a GOP who will vote with us 0% of the time.

And I don't have to get permission or approval from you to be who I choose. So, no thanks, I'm not interested in your game. What you're doing here is ugly and divisive. (176 posts)Dems! I don't care if they aren't the best we can have, but they are ALWAYS better than a republicon! This is the only chance we will have, 2018 must go back to the DEMs, it must! Now we have 2 more possible supreme ct positions to fill, we cannot let trump do this again. The court will be lost for generations and I don't think we have that much time to save ourselves and the planet. We have 1 1/2 years to turn it all around in both houses of congress and get rid of mcturtle!

(80,708 posts)But at the same time, half of GD is full of people outraged at Bernie Sanders for stumping for him. And the guy is a Democrat, and the logic in this thread is, we want Democrats to win, period, end of story, they have the (D) after their name.
So are we supposed to be mad at Bernie over this, or not?
I'm just wondering if there isn't a bit of cognitive dissonance.

A last-minute addition to the rally was Sofia Jawed-Wessel, an assistant professor of public health and health behavior at UNO, who spoke about her support of Planned Parenthood.
Rally behind Heath Mello and support the candidate who supports Planned Parenthood, she said.
As national Democrats discussed whether Mello is a true progressive, Stothert painted him as too liberal. She held a press conference Thursday before the event to call Sanders a liberal and a socialist.
Stothert said she expected the tone of the event to be toxic and a Debbie Downer. And she talked about her upcoming campaign event with Republican Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker. Theres a lot of excitement about him coming to town.

(3,568 posts)That's abhorrent on its face, like "my country, right or wrong". I don't like the tone of your op. It sounds like a demand with a bit of threat mixed in. I simply cannot imagine a realistic scenario in which I'd vote for a Republican. I pretty much hate the Republican party, everything it stand for, and most of the people in it, but Democrat, "NO MATTER WHAT?", no.
