Donald Trump appears to have high levels of support among the nation's intolerant population, according to a New York Times deep dive into polling data.

The Times found that nearly 20% of Trump supporters did not approve of freeing the slaves, according to a January YouGov/Economist poll that asked respondents if they supported or disapproved of "the executive order that freed all slaves in the states that were in rebellion against the federal government"—Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation.

3. Yes, it occurred to me that Jackson might have "prevented the civil war" by keeping slavery intact

and maybe that was the dog whistle that went over some people's heads at first because normal people consider the end of slavery a good thing and so would have completely missed that sub context.

6. The C.S.A. had 2 goals in the Civil War and they were:

1) The end of the United States of America.

2) The right of people in the C.S.A. to own and sell human beings as
slaves.

The Constitution of the C.S.A. has those points written into it. Trump and his
dad have a long history of racism and Trump openly welomes support from
racists, skinheads, neo nazis, and bigots.

I was in Western MD (New Germany State Park) about 2 months ago and one
day I took a drive in the countryside around that area which covered MD, WV,
and VA and some of the rural homes (shacks) would have the Stars n Bars along
with Trump flags or banners.
