What kind of Heartless bastard could seriously propose billions of dollars in spending cuts to life-saving technology and research?

I'm bawling at work now. I've spent those heart wrenching hours in a waiting room while my child had surgery - more than once. And, I've re-financed my house to pay for two of those surgeries. While I consider myself fortunate that I even had a house to borrow against to make my child well, we can and should do better in this country. My hopes are dimming that those in power will seize the opportunity to do the right thing before it is too late for so many.

I'm so sorry you had to take a second or third mortgage out for healthcare. That is just unheard of in any other nation in the world.
hugs.

I'm so glad your child is well, and so sorry that you had to refinance your house. Lack of access to health care is terrible anywhere, but in a country like ours, where the resources ARE available but restricted by politicians and lobbyists and the 1% who pay for them, it's inexcusable.

for your kind words. My son is happy and well. No matter what I had to do to get here, I still consider myself fortunate because I had a way around financial devastation, however, lots of good people lose everything when a loved one is sick. Nobody should have to face that.

I spent most of my professional life at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles--many years ago in the 70's and 80's--and
can tell you this is not a unique story. So many caring and talented people worked there then, as I'm sure they do now,
and helped many, many kids and families who were without financial resources.

I'll post it again: https://www.chla.org/donate

People just say the most awful things. I cannot believe just how rude people have become. And somehow that has become ok.

I just read the comments after reading your post. Seriously, there is no retrieving some people, is there? What has happened to compassion and empathy?
