CNN: "A Victory for Trump"; no mention of people losing healthcare

https://thinkprogress.org/media-covered-ahca-like-a-game-9c63ef904c6b

On Thursday afternoon, House Republicans passed the American Health Care Act (AHCA)— a bill that stands to cost 24 million-plus Americans their health insurance over the next decade, while making coverage more expensive for people who need it the most.

But you wouldn’t know this from visiting the websites of CNN or the Washington Post in the immediate aftermath. CNN covered Trumpcare’s passage out of the House like a closely contested basketball game, with a banner on the site reading, “At last, a victory for Trump.”

Things weren’t more substantive on-air, with CNN’s pundits discussing “what a big, short-term, immediate win this is for the president.”

This is the problem with American media - covering the horse race, not the real underlying issue. The New Yorker gets it right. CNN, WaPo, NYT embarrassed themselves tonight.

And it's a huge problem - viewers of CNN, instead of hearing the truth -- that this is a big tax cut for the wealthy dressed up as a healthcare bill -- heard good things about the bill and the president. That is very dangerous for democracy.

Most Americans don't realize CNN is entertainment -- that it's the same as ESPN. Watch CNN if you want, but it's not real. (What do you think of the video linked above?)

(I fear MSNBC is headed quickly to infotainment too)

The conservative propaganda media like Fox and right wing hate radio have to be handled separately.

so many of them are fucking cogs in a ratings machine.. they wouldn't know how to investigate or tell the most important details of a story if their life depended on it.

I Hope this comes back to bite them in their a$$ as well as drumpfuck and his gang of cutthroats.

but this morning I saw Christine Roman and the new guy (sorry, I do like him but can't remember his name) were very fair in their coverage. Pointed out it wasn't a legislative victory as it has only passed one house, pointed out who the winners (young, rich, healthy) and the losers (everyone else). Showed the clip where Ryan talked about how the ACA was passed that now makes him look like a sniveling hypocrite. Can't speak to the coverage last night but this morning's coverage was fair for as much as I saw of it (from about 4:15am to 6am).

Republican-owned media carries the GOP President's water.

They've used Trump as an excuse to usher in more RW, Trump-apologist pundits, or recycle Fox News castoffs elsewhere.

That's why Democrats need to do HEAVY lifting to inform voters who are within reach.

If Trump-twin Le Pen is defeated in France, it will be in part because their media are not beholden to the GOP, and report the threat she poses to their democracy.
