I don't know you but I can help talk you down from that ledge!!!
It is a REPUBLICAN RAG.
Don't give them a dime of your money!!!
They will lobby against either way and you never have to be associated with THEM.

I lost my Dad in 2012 and got a few of his issues after forwarding his mail to my box.
It's like watching Fox news!!!! I checked out the first one then filed the rest in file 13. Unopened.

My two cents...

Right now they are the most powerful lobby (other than the Democratic Party) against it. They will never go along with huge Medicaid cuts for one thing.

Because a lot of older folks receive Medicaid (and) Medicare and a lot depend on the former for nursing home care.

The shredding of Medicaid get less attention - but AARP is really on that for the reasons you mention. So they are LOUD. They scare Republicans because of who their membership is. The bigger their membership, the more they scare Republicans on this.

States aren't gerrymandered.

There are thirteen red states that took the Medicaid expansion.

The Senate will pass something fairly moderate with some type of state opt out provisions but not one that significantly undermines coverage for other states that want to keep protections intact. Medicaid expansion will still be allowed but Medicaid will be block granted - without serious immediate cuts. But Medicaid costs will be capped with a formula that increases block grants at a rate below the actual rate of growth needed to keep pace with needs. Maybe states will have some kind of opt out regarding Planned Parenthood also. Senate conservatives will count on getting back some of what they want in Conference with the House.

The House won't like what it gets from the Senate, but the final legislation will still be based on the Senate Bill, probably with deeper Medicaid cuts than the original Senate version (to use for tax cuts for the rich) and a few more scraps for the House conservatives. I give that a 55% chance of passing - because all the Republicans know they have to change something about "Obamacare" after pissing and moaning about it for 8 years.

A little discussed fact is that Medicaid expansion created millions of new customers for the insurance industry.

If these groups mobilize, run ads, cajole/ threaten senators and there are effective protests support for repeal can become toxic, at least to three GOP senators, and that is all we need.

My hope is that there are three of them who are more loyal to/scared of their constituents than Trump.

It was roughly described as letting those states that wanted to keep the ACA do so, while letting others have something else. So it seems like a moderate enough "States Choice" proposal can win her backing. But that was a while ago. With snow balling opposition to repeal maybe she'll hold the line.

Blue state residents would get to keep their "goodies" while red state residents would see them taken away. That occured to me when Susan Collins and Bill Cassidy first proposed it.

I have an insulin dependent friend who received Medicaid coverage as part of the ACA expansion. This is of more than passing interest to me.

but that hasn't been my impression of their materials.

Post some links to objectionable stuff so I can take a look.

Anyway, they've been after me to join for a few years now, so I'm going to do as the OP says--call Monday and make my joining contingent on the AARP opposing Trumpcare and anything else Trumpelthinskin proposes that in any way endangers Social Security, Medicaid and Medicare.
