But that is NOT the good news, unfortunately.

What they will do is write their OWN version of it in the form of a budgetary measure, since a health care bill cannot be passed via reconciliation.

Then, they will pass that 'tax-cut-disguised-as-a-health-care-bill-disguised-as-a-budgetary-measure' via reconciliation.

Then most of us will lose affordable health insurance and anyone with a so-called 'pre-existing condition' (ie: anyone who is a woman for instance, just to list ONE of them) can and WILL just drop dead if they need critical lifesaving care.

1. I don't think they have the votes for budget reconciliation. I think there are actually enough

republicans in the Senate that will go for that.

If they want to replace the ACA, they are going to have to write their own bill from scratch, that covers pre-existing conditions, and doesn't sock it to older Americans with pre-existing conditions, and destruction of Medicaid.

In the case of a new bill, they will need 2/3 to pass it, and the Democrats will not sign on unless it is at least as good as or better than the ACA, and any bill meeting that criteria will not be accepted by House freedom caucus.

I think it will be difficult for them to get this through before 2018, and 2018 will determine what happens

It's not even being considered. All of them are talking about drafting a new bill that will be passed through reconciliation. This whole thing has become an exercise in seeing how quickly two or three "moderate" Republican senators will fold.

7. I am hearing mixed reports. The CBO still has to rate the bill, and even with reconciliation it

would still require 51 votes, and with issues of Medicaid expansion, Planned Parenthood, forcing insurance companies not to cover abortion, pre-existing conditions, and the much higher costs that older Americans with pre-existing conditions would pay, I do not think
this is a slam dunk.

Obviously. It's called a healthcare bill so that it can be used to replace Obamacare -- but the reality is, it's just a bill that takes billions in healthcare AWAY from millions of Americans and then shovels that billions into the pockets of big insurance and billionaires.

Senate says they'll write their own. I read somewhere (can't locate the link and who knows who's credible these days) that they will write the thing as a budget bill so they can pass it w/ 'reconciliation'.

Republicans being the vile psychopaths they are, who would put this past them? I wouldn't.

I called Portman's (Ohio) office. He was just re-elected, but he says he won't support the Medicaid cuts...and that this bill is DOA in the Senate.
