Even The Atlantic blindly refers to a SSA document which strongly implies that the average undocumented worker in the US earned over $40k/year in 2010.

Not the average household, the average individual worker. Don't know that I think that's a plausible number. If they're making just minimum wage, they're working nearly 14 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Yet even that document says "as much as $13 billion." Really, the SSA doesn't know.

3. The undocumented often share names and SS numbers in order to get work.

The tax with-holdings are gathered under one legitimate name/number and so could easily get over $40,000 per year.
