She was the one who turned me onto DU. I would see her on the site starting in 2008. She didn't post, as far as I know, but she really enjoyed reading what other people wrote about the election and she agreed with everyone. One day I asked her what was it about DU that kept her coming back. She told me it was insightful discussions and the how polite people were to each other on here. She told me to try it and see. Well she got me hooked. She always called herself a yellow dog democrat- never quit understood that until she she said a yellow dog ( or any dog ) could run the country better than Bush and she vote for one if one ever ran. Then "it" stepped into the ring. She never addressed Trump with his name. She called him "it"- because he lurked in the gutters and scares the shit out of everyone"- She loved Stephen King. She said he would kill the country and everything it stands for. As she got sicker and was in and out of the hospital they would ask her who the president was ( to test memory ) she would say "it". They would at me and I would say she still has her memory, it's all good. This last week she was not here. She looked at me and never really saw me. She passed at home with me by her side. She was truly my best friend. People have been asking me what my plans are since I was her care giver and devoted so many years to being with her, I tell them keep reading DU and resisting "it", everything else will fall into place when the time is right

(3,112 posts)We share something in common.... my mom also turned me on to DU many years ago, and when she passed in 2013 I wrote a tribute to her on here as well. I hope you take comfort in the many sincere posts of condolence you read, like I did.

(2,050 posts)My Mother is the same in her hatred of 45 and what he's doing to this great country.
She has been beside herself due to what's happening and did not have any hope it would turn out better in the end, then I found this site and have told her about the fisa investigations and what is going on that you didn't hear on the MSM, that there may just be a light at the end of the tunnel.
That there's at least four separate investigations into 45's trashing of our country and constitution, that "it" will most likely be removed from office and end up wearing an orange suit.
She still feels a huge amount of apprehension but at least now knows something is being done to save us from the continued assaults on our well being and way of life.
As I write this I'm sitting in our fifth wheel in the fairgrounds at Lynden Washington, where one year ago we were invaded by 45's campaign as he wouldn't have received any welcome in Seattle or Everett, so they came here instead and ruined our camping trip by taking over the fairgrounds and filling it with deplorables.
So yes I've been to one of "it's" rally's, but not by choice, which seems to be the order of the day now.
Yup, we had 45 shoved down our throats long before January, but not for much longer I hope.

Stay strong.
Know that you were with her, during the time of her passage, and provided comfort. That is a gift that you will reflect back on with great pride. I've lost both of my parents, and was there through most of it. I speak of this through experience. The sad part is that decades later, the sorry of this moment can be recalled with near equal emotion, including writing this response (as I hold back the tears).

(22,132 posts)about "it". My Dad passed four days after the 2004 election. He always called George W. "Dumbo". His oncologist would ask him who won the election and he would always say "Dumbo". I would say "He's fine."
That memory still makes me laugh. May all the good memories of your Mom make you smile when you think of her. .

(19,558 posts)One worthy of your love for her, and she'd be very pleased with you I bet. She did a wonderful job raising you. It's obvious you're an amazing person, just like she was.
My thoughts are with you tonight, and in the coming days. I'm sorry for your loss, and only ask that you focus as much as possible on who she was and what she wanted to teach you. From experience I can say that's what got me through my grief.
