She told the woman I wish that they had never let you in the country. The Muslim woman told her she was born here. Then this trumpian says, Well Obama is not in office any more, the Muslim is gone and you better watch out.
Boy, with Trump in the WH, these bigots feel empowered to do and say anything. I want one of them to say something to me, I won't hold back on telling them how I fell about them.

This is a perfect example of the banality of evil. That woman would gladly send innocent people to their deaths, and smile whilst doing so.

(7,391 posts)It speaks of a desperation -- a moral desperation? -- that she would accost a stranger in public. I bet she considers herself a staunch Christian, and I bet she buys into both Prosperity Gospel and Holy War On Muslims, and therefore sees no irony in heaping abuse on Others and the Poors.
But that's fucking insane. Totally fucking insane. And if a whole group of people really believe this together, and talk about it, and make it their world --
That lifestyle is a catastrophe. Life is hard enough, but to invest all one's thought and spirit into dreaming of abattoirs for fellow citizens -- they doom themselves, and weigh on the rest of us.
There's a reason red states are all dirt poor and poisoned and empty.
This.

It's so easy to think that bigots stand out - that you could pick them out of a crowd. But you can't - this woman looks like such a nice middle-class woman.
Except she's not nice and her ignorance is right there, for all to see.
yuiyoshida
(41,818 posts)That look like me, .. or a few others here. I would wager to say most Minorities didn't vote for Trump. Hispanic, Blacks, Asians...Pacific Islanders (Like me)
janterry
(4,429 posts)but I was talking more about her presentation. She looks educated and middle-class. She looks stable economically. The racists that I have encountered were nice to their friends and family, I'm sure - and some were educated - and even stable economically
but the folks that stood out for me wore t-shirts and hats or had stickers on their cars that said horrible things.
I was yelled at in public several times not for doing anything, but because they assumed I was liberal (really, from a distance! It was shocking).
I kind of knew where many of them stood because they wore things that announced what they believed - they wanted me to know where they stood.
This woman has none of that
yuiyoshida
(41,818 posts)but our PARTY IS MORE diverse than the Republicans, the point I was driving at.

(89,241 posts)candidates. but he still won more of them than hillary did.
there is a lot of focus on the lower income whites but they alone would not have given him a victory. it took a bunch of middle and higher incomes to do it.
Wow. More Caucasian and male - or just most Caucasians with degrees period?
Though, I must say - that makes sense.
Where I used to live (at least in the surrounding counties - not our city, proper), he was elected overwhelmingly. Many of them didn't have degrees, I suppose, but many did - I have worked in those towns and know them well. Most were very racist (as in flying the confederate flag right as you are 'welcomed' into town) and Caucasian (though not all, the South is such a different place, culturally, than the North - and certainly varied .
Those areas lack opportunity (tbh, they really never had much in the way of opportunity). There are plenty of prisons that offer jobs (usually the biggest employer in town). But the pay is horrible and the work - well, hard.
I guess the dividing line was really just about economic opportunity.
JI7
(89,241 posts)and trump did slightly better with college educated white men. combined college educated whites went for trump a little bit more than for hillary . but non college educated whites went for trump in huge numbers .

What a fool to think that Pres. Obama was a Muslim, too. And even if he were, it wouldn't be a problem as long as he would adhere to the Constitution.

(45,380 posts)it gives me hope for humanity. Brown people deal with this every day even in liberal NoVa which Hillary won in a big way. She got Fairfax and Loudoun counties by decisive margins. Reston is in very diverse, educated, wealthy Fairfax county. A lot of minorities live in Reston.
We're not just over sensitive triggered snowflakes. It's a daily barrage of lunacy.
Bigots have been emboldened after the election and think they can harass and intimidate brown US Citizens, especially those of us who are born in America and compete with these bigots for US citizen only jobs in federal contracting. They desperately convince themselves to believe that Americans are white and foreigners are brown as if their careers, houses, and livelihoods depend on it.
Many brown federal employees have already been demoted or reassigned to bullshit simply for having Middle Eastern or South Asian ancestry. It's happened to Republicans who joined during the Bush administration. Americans have randomly lost their Global Entry/TSA Pre-check simply for having foreign sounding names. Deplorables even point to Trump's one brown FCC chairman as an excuse for all the other brown people who have been Trumped already in the first 100 days.
Nobody tells the Trumps that America should have never let them come over from Germany and Scotland.

(81,127 posts)and I just had to stop a minute.
Know what I saw?
I saw two young Jewish guys at one counter, joking with each other. One of 'em wore a yarmulke.
I saw a Black dad with his little kid whom he'd hoist up to sit on the counter while he completed his transaction.
I saw a mixed-race couple, and then another mixed-race couple.
I saw a Latino family, and then another Latino couple.
I saw a tall lanky light-skinned Black dude with dreadlocks.
I saw several students in a group, stocking up on snacks.
I saw two women wearing the hijab and carefully checking their shopping list.
I saw a white guy pushing his shopping cart with his kid seated in the kiddie seat, kicking her little legs like it was going out of style.
I saw a Latino dad with his little girl half-hanging off the side of his shopping cart (she was obviously hinting that she wanted up into that kiddie seat).
I saw quite a few elderly people. And lotta middle-aged people - of all colors, shapes, and postures.
I saw overweight people and short-statured people.
I saw a white woman who looked like she'd dressed for the office.
I saw another mixed-race couple and a middle-aged Anglo couple, and a middle-aged Asian couple. And another Latino family...
And it just gave my face the biggest smile.
I thought - I Love L.A. EVERYBODY's here. I live in The World.

(22,976 posts)They open their yaps FIRST every time, usually to someone who isn't white/Christian. They have no filter, or capacity to feel or imagine what another person might be experiencing when they start in with their shit. They are just compelled to rage away, no matter how nutty and intrusive (and blatently racist) their comments are. I've lost count of the number of videos and news blurbs I've absorbed about Trump voters who go after food servers, students, women (anywhere), peaceful demonstrators, etc. with everything from foul mouths to loaded weapons.
Engaging strangers in a confrontational or threatening manner and blathering paranoid, xenophobic streams of consciousness used to be hallmarks of insanity. The only people who did that were emotionally imbalanced and needed psychiatric help.
But now? They form the base of a major political party. And those party members like to repeat (ad nauseam) that "liberalism is a mental disorder"-- they even project their craziness onto others.
