such things have happened before in history. Bloody Mary's great love, Phillip of Spain, insisted she eliminate any threat to her power/wealth. Especially the unfortunate Jane Gray who had been pretty much forced to usurp the throne from Mary after Edward's death. Mary gave in and had Jane executed even though Jane clearly had no designs on the throne.

Now we have Comey axed and he was certainly a threat to the power Russia has achieved in Trump.
