It may have been wrong for Trump to fire him, but let's not turn Comey into a hero. He destroyed the FBI.
And he is 100 percent responsible for electing Trump. He intervened to harm the Democratic candidate over and over again.

(6,143 posts)Comey did not destroy the FBI, nor is he "probably the most respected person in America."
And Guiliani and the corrupt NY FBI Field office were going to leak about the Weiner laptop even if Comey didn't send his letter.

(7,430 posts)I nonetheless had faith that, in THIS investigation, he was towing the line. He DID oversee the forming of 2-3 grand juries. The writers behind the scenes on this issue insist that the FBI has ALL of the information it needs to prosecute at least two dozen people, including Trumpy. Comey got the ball rolling, and now it has its own momentum. Subpoenas have already been issued, and between 6 and 21 people will be getting indicted. Soon.
And in the unlikely event that the evidence gets "lost", foreign intelligence services have archived their OWN evidence of Trumpy's collusion with Putin, which they will likely release if the situation warrants it. Foreign (European) intelligence services do NOT feel comfortable with Trumpy because they know that Trumpy is aligned with Europe's enemy, Putin.

(42,694 posts)Some may have a basis in fact, but there is a lot of "some people say" and 'unnamed sources' being relied on by those writers behind the scenes.
Two days ago there were many here screaming about Comey's misrepresenting the Clinton investigation to Congress, calling a Trumpbot, and wishing they could have his head on a platter.
Now his firing is viewed by some as the end of civilization as we know it.
Reality lies somewhere between the extremes.

(10,500 posts)I can't believe that so many people don't understand the enormity of what Comey did.
Maybe Trump fired him for the wrong reasons yesterday. But Obama should have fired him as a lame duck after the election.
Then again, Obama never should have appointed him. It was the biggest mistake of his presidency.
