My neighbor the trump supporter

Last edited Fri May 12, 2017, 11:46 AM - Edit history (2)

my neighbor use to talk trump all time. But now I have noticed he will talk about normal subjects. Kids wives the flowers we planted college baseball. He has toned down on his enthusiasm on trump I hope this is happening nationwide. Since trump started running I have seen a rationale middle aged man turn into a trump groupie maybe he is pulling back.

Obviously he kept the lines of communication open during the time his neighbor was all in for Trump. The neighbor is now not speaking of Trump. Letting the neighbor have the time and space to first pull away from Trump and maybe progress to disliking him is probably more likely if the OP does not push it. Many people, even as they lose trust in someone, become defensive if that person is attacked or their past support is questioned by someone else.

A small Saturday night auction I go to always had the auctioneer cracking Hillary jokes, now it's trump jokes.
Every morning I go online to read the newspaper from the town I moved from in Ohio. The LTTE, almost always had someone praising DT. Have not seen one of those for a couple of weeks now.

Best thing to talk about is Mercer's $7 billion tax debt and how his huge investments in politics are a logical business decision to get the taxes forgiven.

Same for the Koches.

Raising awareness of ALEC and where GOP money comes from and how GOP are purchased by the ultra wealthy to destroy the government and cut taxes on the wealthy -- if you can do that it's key.

You can also discuss how CNN has become ESPN, and how Fox News lied about Pence's emails, but that's a tough topic.

I told him that I didn't want to argue with him because we cannot agree on facts. I told him he was in a bubble and to try watching a few other outlets which he won't. I flipped to Fox last night in the middle of all of the talk about Trump's interview and him admitting he fired Comey because he wanted the Russian investigation over. It was on all news channels except Fox. Tucker Carlson was talking about whether the FBI would re-open Hillary's email case.

There is your problem.

As of now a lack of impulse control and empathy. Most Trump supporters I know cannot handle facts but some part of them realises there is something seriously wrong with Donald.

Maybe they have figured out to silence the bots, but one thing I have noticed is the public comments on places with articles like yahoo and Washington Post and USA Today have dramatically shifted from 50 percent trump defenders to 10 percent. Much more consensus disdain now. I have also noticed complete silence on Facebook. No enthusiastic pro trump posts or comments defending him on anti trump posts my friends or I may post. Only two months ago any anti trump post I would make would be derided.

I predict Trumps approval will fall to mid 20s by end of month. The slide has already started on Gallup.

I have a Facebook friend who posts a LOT of political stuff, usually aimed at this current corrupt cabal driving our nation off a cliff. He has a friend who sometimes posts a rebuttal, sometimes a very angry rebuttal, looking to justify whatever nonsense the Trump administration is trying to peddle: Name-calling, whataboutery, Democrats are worse, the usual Fox bullshit excuses. It's been a week or more since that guy has dropped in to try to make a counterargument.

Unless, of course, he's blocked me. Sometimes I can't help myself but to offer a counterpost to the bullshit. But if he's blocked me, I think that says something, too.

Yet, it makes me wonder how many others have shifted as well. Where there is one, there is more.

During the campaign we shared a mutual disdain for trump and she complained about him as unbelievable. It is a complete flip to now defending him and downplaying his controversy. I could not listen to anymore after I mentioned my disdain he is a sexual predator and she said, oh, he just laid his hand on a woman's thigh. Men do that. I was silent and ended the exchange. If I had spoken, I would have yelled!

She proudly declared that she and her husband are now republicans is how the exchange began.

The thing is, she complains a lot about everything and is critical of minorities. She has a seething anger about most things in life. I am learning these are the republican type species.

We both love to garden, but I do it organically and she uses a lot of poisons.

She said she and her husband have always been democrats and voted that way. Her husband being in the Union and they put up 'Support the Union' signs in their yard.

Yes, their lawn and garden smells like a chemical factory and she wondered why no animals hang out in her yard. Duh!!! I can't even talk with them in their own yard I get sick from it. YUK!

My yard is full of wild life!!!

if they use so many chemicals that you can actually smell it. Maybe this is how republicans will end, they will shorten their life spans with excessive chemicals and pollution! Unfortunately, they will probably take some liberals with them though.

. . .of whether they're telling the truth when they say they voted for HRC, doesn't it? Either that, or they just are bandwagoneers who thought they were backing a winner, and switched sides so they would be on the winning team.

Yesterday he called me for no other reason other than to talk about how embarrassed he is about the way Trump is handling this Russian investigation, the KGB photo op in the Oval Office was the straw that broke the camel's back for him.

I just listen and then I said ... well you're not alone, the entire country is embarrassed and has been for a long time.
