(90,202 posts)It has been a horrible week, and my heart is breaking for my country.
This afternoon I found myself telling someone that I thought we had turned a corner when we elected Barack Obama -- not that we were "post-racial" or any of that woo-woo stuff, but just made a big step forward. And now it turns out that every bit of ugliness this country can lay claim to has just been festering beneath the surface...
So now, a couple of hours after that conversation, I recalled the fierce battles at DU over whether Obama should be elected in the first place. One of my responses at that time was this: Of course he's not perfect, but post-Bush, he will give us a chance to repair this country. A chance, that is all, and if we elect the Republican, we will have none.
I think we are about on the cusp of finding out whether or not we have completely squandered that chance.
Well, as Obama would be the first to say, our hope lies in ourselves... Imua.

(83,355 posts)He had me when he was the keynote speaker....said to myself, now there is a President. I admit when he announced I felt he was to young for the job...however the more I listened to him the more I was convinced it was the right thing for him and for us.
I know it sounds crazy, but I knew without a doubt that he would win the Presidency... both times. Not a doubt in my mind.

Read this Hekate...
"I'm going to take a little vacation," he said, "get a little sun, but then we are right back at it. "
He told me about the work he will be doing on youth and families, on getting more people engaged in voting, on protecting liberties. Then he said the words that meant the most to me: "The best is yet to come."

We are not done yet. Not by a longshot.

(1,257 posts)Every time I see a pic or video of him, or read his words.....
Why do the hateful ones in this country refuse to see the hope, unity, and humanity that he represented?
No, he is not perfect... but who among us is?
Perfection is an illusion.
Ignorance is not, look around.
And God knows.... look at the current administration!
Talk about spiteful, willful and delusional ignorance!
Pray.

(38,264 posts)However you regard the U.S.A. (I think we lean right) Obama is clearly one of our greatest Presidents.
It's a bloody shame that 40% of the U.S. population can't see beyond the cesspools they live in, of racism, fascism, death cult religious beliefs, and anti-intellectualism.
Trump and Pence are evil moron clowns, knobs, and tools.
I've no sympathy for the deplorables. They hate Obama because he wasn't "white" in their world view.
The only black guys they tolerate are politically inept, people like the Ben Carson and Clarence Thomas.
