99 percent of Hurricane Matthew aid requested by NC denied by Trump administration

http://wncn.com/2017/05/10/99-percent-of-hurricane-matthew-funds-requested-by-nc-denied-by-trump-administration/?utm_content=buffer5b05d&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer

The State of North Carolina requested $929 million from the federal government to help with costs associated with Hurricane Matthew, but the state will be receiving far less than that, according to an announcement by Gov. Roy Cooper.

North Carolina will receive only $6.1 million from the Trump administration. That’s 99 percent less than the requested amount.

In a letter Cooper sent to the president and other officials today, he expressed “shock and disappointment in the lack of federal funding for Hurricane Matthew recovery efforts.”

And yet, "Congress Budgets $120 Million to Pay Security Costs for President Trump's Family"

Congress is looking to budget more than $120 million to cover the cost of security for President Donald Trump and his family through a bipartisan spending agreement.

Approximately half of the money would be allocated to the Secret Service and most of the those funds will go toward protection of President Donald Trump while traveling, along with security for Trump Tower in New York City.

Another $60 million will be used to reimburse places like New York City and Palm Beach County in Florida, which have been using local law enforcement to protect Trump's residences, according to the Times.

Slow leaners? No need to insult a Democratic administration doing whatever it can for folks that are still suffering from the effects of Matthew.

Signed,
Someone displaced by the subsequent flooding.

Sure, people will be upset at the money. But it's NC - will they vote Democrat next election?

If they don't............I'm not sure *I* care. I'm happy to 'vote the right thing' - I want to help everyone.

But if NC will vote for Trump, then they get just what they should expect.

I was in NC during Matthew, btw (stuck right by one of the off ramps). The first night, I slept in my car in a parking lot (with lots of other people). The second day, we got stuck by the flooding (for hours!). We tried to get around it, but couldn't, and finally had to drive all the way back to Florence (through water, at that point). Everywhere we drove it was a mess...............

We came back down south about 2 weeks later and (as you know) it was still a mess).

The state has a responsiblitity to take care of the state and mitigate storm damages. That said, it is up to the federal gov't to help when a catastrophe happens. As usual, those with nothing, end up with less.

and that storm was last year. I can imagine what is going to happen this year with the MW floods and SE wildfires.
