"When are you going to decide to be an American and not a politician?" GOP rep confronted at T.H.

Perhaps enough of this will be the impetus for an independent investigation:

WILLINGBORO, N.J. — Rep. Tom MacArthur (R-N.J.) faced an angry crowd at a town hall Wednesday night demanding he call for an independent investigation of President Trump's Russia ties.

The town hall came a day after Trump fired James Comey as director of the FBI amid a probe into whether his campaign associates colluded with the Russian government to influence the 2016 election.

"Donald Trump is not a Republican, Congressman. Donald Trump is an authoritarian!" a constituent screamed at MacArthur to roaring approval from a crowd of about 200.

"How long are you and your fellow Republicans going to defend this American nightmare?" the constituent asked. "When are you going to decide to be an American and not a politician?"

MacArthur, after listening calmly, insisted he wants to see the House and Senate committees complete their investigations before calling for an independent probe. He reminded his constituents in this predominately Democratic part of the district that other people disagree with the constituent angry over Trump.

"I hear you, but there are loads of other people who don't see it that way," MacArthur said.

sense of desperation comes through, but I don't think he would be asked to go on one of the news shows later like some of the people who had really heartfelt comments RE the health care issue. Remember how several of them were asked to go on shows like I think Rachel...Don't remember for sure which show, but they were considered effective and credible spokespeople, enough that they were interviewed on news shows. This guy came across as too volatile for that.

when people get really upset they tend to shout a little, are your feelings hurt that a Republican shouted at a Republican!? I can see the passive resistance? Kind of funny, when there is a "Raving Fucking Idiot in OUR HOUSE"!!! Show some passion!!

I think it was a brilliant and on-target point that he made. When the fuck are they going to act like Americans and not politicians?? I don't blame him at all for shouting. I just think if he had lowere his decibel level and delivered the message -- through clenched teeth, perhaps -- it could have been much much more effective.

Good for him for going. I just was picturing what that clip MIGHT have sounded like if delivered just a little differently

question of what your goal is and what will be most effective in achieving that goal. People will have different opinions about that. But it always gets down to "What is my goal here and what is the most effective way to achieve it?" There may be as many opinions about that as there are people posting on this thread.

This isn't a polite brunch at a high end hotel. For gods' sakes, are we all supposed to be "soft and calm" when our country is being devastated? Passion is required here. So is anger.

Can drive home that anger more effectively than shouting.

When I am really furious about something and I speak precisely and forcefully, clipped, look out. There's a clarity that enters in the conversation then that forces the listener to pay attention.

ALL of them justified now. Including shouting. Politely trying to explain to Republicans just how angry we are doesn't work. They need to be booed off the stage. I love the people who are doing just that!

I'm sorry, but this calm and rational bullshit has gotten us nowhere. They don't take us seriously unless we show that we are outraged and aren't going to put up with it anymore. They don't respond to reason, they respond to anger and threats to their future careers.
