Jail inmate grabs gun, takes hostage at Illinois hospital
A jail inmate receiving treatment at a hospital near Chicago grabbed his guard's gun and took a female hospital employee hostage on Saturday, according to local officials and media reports.
Delnor Hospital, in the suburban city of Geneva, Illinois, has been closed to the public as local police try to resolve the stand-off, according to a statement on the city's website.
The male inmate from the Kane County jail and the female hospital employee were not identified, and no one has been injured, the Chicago Tribune reported.
The inmate was holding the employee in a room near the hospital's emergency ward for several hours, according to the Tribune.
Officials at the hospital and the sheriff's office did not immediately respond to requests for details.

A standoff involving a Kane County jail inmate holding an employee at a Geneva hospital hostage ended late Saturday afternoon with the inmate dead, officials said.
The inmate was taken to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital for treatment, said sheriff's spokesman Lt. Patrick Gengler. While there, he grabbed the gun of the Kane County correctional officer who was chaperoning him.
The hostage situation started about 12:30 p.m., according to Geneva police. The standoff--in which the inmate held the gun on a female hospital employee--ended around 5 p.m. with the inmate shot to death by a SWAT team, Gengler said.
The inmate was identified as Tywon Salters, 21, of Chicago. He had been held in Kane County jail on a charge of possession of a stolen motor vehicle out of Elgin, Gengler said. Jail records show Salters was booked into the jail in March.
