Chelsea Manning will be released Wednesday, May 17, 2017

Sometime after dawn on Wednesday, Chelsea will be free from the military prison in Kansas. She is going home to Maryland and will be received warmly by friends and family. She is looking forward to breathing the warm spring air, hugs, and going swimming. She plans on going to college.

I think about the severity of long-term trauma and it's effects on her and her ability to adapt in the world and civilian life. She faces the challenge of incredible controversy for her past acts of whistleblowing and living as a transgender woman.
She was forbidden to speak or write about politics while in prison, once out, I am sure we will soon be hearing the full story directly from her.

Given the current climate, she could be considered a trophy by the far right.

Even with her living as a transgender woman she is at risk. There are reports of transgender people being murdered because of it. I think she is at high risk of harm. Maybe there will be people that volunteer to provide security.
