General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI just saw a total BS ad, for Whole Foods.
Bragging about "no artificial colors/flavors" and showing their produce department. ONLY.
Last time I was in a Whole Foods, they had processed food on the shelves.

(12,132 posts)but my friend who likes it but doesn't go very often calls them Whole Paycheck.
I heard the owner was a bit of a righty so I'm not going.
We just got Trader Joe's so Imma see what that's all about.

(35,620 posts)for people who don't have time or inclination to cook. Some is on the healthy side, some not.
Personally, I prefer Aldis. Better prices. It is their "sister store" because one German brother owns Aldis, the other TJs.
But I really like TJ's, too. I don't shop there much because we make all our own food, for the most part. We did buy a couple of their pizzas this week. Ummm!
CEO of WF is libertarian, not so much a righty.
WF is good to buy chicken, meats, etc., because they do a good job of vetting for the treatment of animals. At least you can buy anything there in that aisle without having to read all the labels, like at a regular supermarket.
As far as the rest, just go and shop the ideas. My spouse, who is in the gourmet food field, calls them the "great food combiners." They know how to package and put together, and you can do this yourself for a whole lot less.
Whenever I want inspiration to cook, I cruise their salad bar. At $8.99 a lb., I get motivated to cook.

(65,161 posts)I don't like food with preservatives or GMO, and I can shop there without worrying about those. Prices are much better than Whole Foods. Selection is a bit limited and you never know what they will be out of, but I always make it a point to go there along with Giant and Wegmans.

(12,132 posts)We just got a new one by our old house and then we moved but I think there's one up here too lol.
I guess Libertarian is better than repub righty but depends which parts they take to heart. Can't remember now what specifically but I remember reading some unfavorable things about him here at DU. And since my friend thinks WF is spendy I'd probably never go anyway.
I also read the US is getting some Aldi competition from Lidl soon. They can both get a look from me as long they bring some good German beer. (Doesn't have to be name brand - just good)

(6,568 posts)Good company to work for. Pay/benefits were real good (at least in my area).
That said, they're full of woo.

(62,503 posts)and talk to anyone of them in private and they will tell you that WF's is completely full of shit.
plus many of their products now have HFCS as well.
they like they "organic" label, but they are just like any super market now, only with higher prices.
