Trump Just Pulled Another Con Job on Veterans

A hotline for troubled veterans that President Trump promised after he was elected has still not been set up.

According to the Military Times, veterans in need of government services are still waiting on their Commander-in-Chief to set up the hotline, which he promised would be “devoted to answering veterans’ complaints of wrongdoing at the VA and ensure no complaints fall through the cracks,” in addition to being staffed 24 hours a day. The hotline was initially proposed in July of last year, when Trump was on the campaign trail promoting his ten-point plan to help reform the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

In his stump speeches talking about the hotline, the Military Times reported that in addition to VA staff, he would personally answer the hotline, saying it would eventually “take the place of Twitter.”

whistleblower protection program that's really meant to be a negative-propaganda machine. It'll swamp the nation with negative stories about a failing and corrupt VA that must be "privatized" to protect our vets.

They're setting up this new division in spite of the fact that the pubs have turned the screw so tight on funding that the VA's had a hiring freeze in place for some time. Of course they can't afford to hire more psychiatrists, much less set up the hot line in the OP. Nevertheless, they are taking money from patient care to set up and staff the worm instead.

The VA is under full-scale attack from anti-tax conservatives who mean to destroy it. Veterans had better get active if they don't want to eventually find themselves trying to purchase their own insurance out in the cold, hard world.

Speaking of, the trend for employers to no longer provide health insurance continues and is expected to grow. Millions of us will lose that benefit over the next few years alone.
