(26,243 posts)Not that I expect the Repugnants to impeach him over it though but if they try the sham impeachment which I suspect they will try where it passes in the House but falls just short of passing in the Senate by one or more votes the backlash against them at the polls will hopefully give them all whiplash.

(11,560 posts)or it would not have happened at all. It's probably not that strong in a criminal trial, but someone's written notes about a contested event in a civil trial are enough to carry the day, all other things being equal.
I'm hopeful, is what I'm saying.

(70,092 posts)...Mr. Comey wrote the memo detailing his conversation with the president immediately after the meeting, which took place the day after Mr. Flynn resigned, according to two people who read the memo. The memo was part of a paper trail Mr. Comey created documenting what he perceived as the presidents improper efforts to influence an ongoing investigation. An F.B.I. agents contemporaneous notes are widely held up in court as credible evidence of conversations.
Mr. Comey shared the existence of the memo with senior F.B.I. officials and close associates. The New York Times has not viewed a copy of the memo, which is unclassified, but one of Mr. Comeys associates read parts of the memo to a Times reporter.

(26,243 posts)the House votes yes but the Senate votes no by a handful of votes and then they will try to play innocent and say "Well folks we did our duty but the Senate has decided not to impeach the President so its now time to move along and deal with more important business.".

(58,785 posts)well, I just wish someone would have let me bet my next paycheck with odds that he was documenting everything very, very carefully. Sucker bet.
That said, we know Comey is corrupt and that he's mixed up over his 6'8" hairline in the most giant, crooked, seditious betrayal we'e ever been faced with. I wouldn't put anything past him to get himself safe out of this. If I didn't hope to see them all in federal prison I'd feel really sorry for those amateurs in the White House thinking they can somehow go up against him and win. As it is, a falling out among criminals.

(3,194 posts)The repubs couldn't care less. Besides, isn't Drumpf basically admitting to this already?
It probably wouldn't matter if there was video of him handing classified documents to an ISIS leader. At best, there are 2 or 3 repubs who MIGHT come on board with the Democrats. And even that would take a miracle. The remaining 95+% will vote with their party, that's how they get what they want.

(18,973 posts)These people aren't stupid. Obama, Comey, any other intelligence officer, they all left trails of evidence of Trump's wrong doings all over every level of law enforcement. There is no containing it.
And this (Comey's memo) is evidence of a crime by Trump. Obstruction of justice.

(1,097 posts)There is also a memo from each visit with Trump, and the memos of FBI agents are considered by court precedent as accurate accounts of events and jurists are instructed to accept them as such.

Obstructing the FBI? Jailing reporters? Leaking the most classified of information to the Russians?
Is he TRYING to get impeached? In 24 hours he's gone after the intelligence community, the Feds, and the entire fourth estate. I've said for decades that Trump was stupid, but sweet Jesus.

(7,391 posts)Their 97% conviction rate relies on a ruthlessly methodical pursuit that often grinds the subject to paste before the actual arrest.
I also think this is Trump screaming at the Justice Department, trying to provoke a reaction. He's had enough, and wants a showdown.
But that's not how this works. Paste.

(37,648 posts)Trump will deny it, of course. But I don't think that fish will swim. When someone makes a memo describing a conversation at about the same time of the conversation, that's pretty strong and is admissible in court. This was way back in February.

He's a Christian right winger. In his acceptance speech he said "I'm a Christian first. An American second. And a Republican third."
That terrifying. He puts his interpretation of religion over the Constitution. Where will the wall separating Church and State be under Prez Pence?

(2,198 posts)I document every meeting I had with ALL superiors and a few underlings who were political appointees and a few career civil servants who were former political appointees. It's the only way to go! I needed my records of meetings more than once.
After each meeting with my direct supervisor I would produce a meeting summary for her or him to initial or make changes. One superior was so angry about this he refused to initial the memo to the record and told me I was overstepping my position...so I documented that too.
