Ignorance of the law is not an excuse, but I am becoming more and more convinced what Trump is truly guilty of is GROSS INTELLECTUAL NEGLIGENCE
Obstruction of Justice and telling Comey to stop Flynn investigation: Trump is running the government like he probably ran his NYC construction company. He probably coerced, bribed, intimidated dozens upon dozens of contractors, buyers, judges, municipal cronies, inspectors, etc and totally got away with it. He is too lazy to learn how the government works - so he is applying behaviors from his past.
And asking for loyalty - think about it - Trump probably employed hundreds upon hundreds throughout his career. He got pledges of loyalty that he likely secured with threats of some kind. How many people came out during the election and trashed him? no one comes to mind.
Revealing Classified Information to Russians : Most telling - an article from Raw Story.
In private, three administration officials conceded that they could not publicly articulate their most compelling and honest defense of the president: that Mr. Trump, a hasty and indifferent reader of printed briefing materials, simply did not possess the interest or knowledge of the granular details of intelligence gathering to leak specific sources and methods of intelligence gathering that would do harm to United States allies, the report claimed.

(42,770 posts)have never run. Makes me think about how the light bulb came on for all of us at varying times during the election that he was never going to pivot to a learning mode. Not after primary and then not during general. His lack of educating himself was his biggest disqualifier - yet that was probably not clear enough to the more intelligent people who voted for him.

(38,419 posts)No big deal to me. Hell I am kinda old, and I know so little...I got to ask others all the time. I figured I know more, but...I found out over time, how little I know. I could ask someone if I don't know a particular law. Trump does have a few lawyers working for him/ privately, and as President of the United States. He could ask someone if it would be ok to tell Comey what he did..but..well that would mean...............he would have to ask someone about something he was going to say...????

(42,770 posts)it is like there is a part of his brain that is missing. Thought the same about Palin - totally unqualified to be VP, literally. If you or I were a first year med student and someone came in and said "Ok - Stuart, you go in an do a heart transplant, Laura, you go in and separate conjoined twins" we would immediately know we didn't know enough. Palin did not know she didn't know enough to be VP - but, to give her some credit over Trump, she at least tried to learn.

(12,894 posts)and I think it is ignorance, arrogance, and ego that drive him to do these stupid things.

(42,770 posts)know much - just "I want that piece of property to build a tower. You minions, figure out how to make it happen." Intimidation, bribery, coercion, damaging information - were all party of that game and because of his wealth and power he could get away with it. And if someone sued, he just bombarded them with counter suits and delays until they went away.
Imagine he has lived this life for 50 years and always got what he wanted and never had to learn much at all. If new things to learn - others learned for him.
So, he thought - "I am a genius" - doing nothing and am a zillionaire. So, how hard could it be to be president? Someone will take care of all the details (like they have for 50 years) - I will just come up with the ideas.
So - is his behavior a product of the last 50 years? Or has he ever known I do not have to learn because I have people to learn for me - and if I didn't have people, I would have to learn?

(5,611 posts)Daddy handed him all sorts of extremely valuable contacts and all of that kept little Trump afloat. Even though he pretends that he's the most amazing businessman ever he is where he is due to nepotism and in spite of his four bankruptcies.

(42,770 posts)the next level - just by osmosis from his father. Explains why he is so insecure - he never had to do anything hard. He was unsuccessful in marriages too - until he ended up with a woman who hardly spoke English. (Knew a guy who did the same thing - could never stay with anyone intelligent because they figured out he was always cheating and ended up with a girl from China who spoke almost zero English).
So I guess the only time he had to learn was in college
