First Republican raises impeachment for Trump

Rep. Justin Amash (R-Mich.) on Wednesday said reports that President Trump pressed ousted FBI Director James Comey to end an investigation would merit impeachment if true, becoming the first Republican lawmaker to broach the idea.

Asked by The Hill if the details in the memo would merit impeachment if they're true, Amash replied: "Yes."

"But everybody gets a fair trial in this country," Amash added as he left a House GOP conference meeting.

Asked by another reporter whether he trusted Comey's word or Trump's, Amash said: "I think it's pretty clear I have more confidence in Director Comey."

Trump's letter firing Comey plus Trump going on TV saying firing Comey had to do with Russia's investigation.

That's just the obstruction part.

Any interactions where details are complicated or maybe a source of contention later. Many professionals in high stakes positions (lawyers, engineers) keep them forever in case they might be needed to prove something in court. He not only took notes, he discussed with a trusted few that they existed- which indicates he was afraid others would try to hide or destroy them. If the notes are consistent with his current testimony and the facts they would be deemed highly credible.
