And congratulations to the graduates as they embark on their critical and never-ending task. At the very least they deserved a speech about THEM and the vital work they do.

When we had an even hear a couple of years ago, one of the speakers was from the Navy. Our state Senator welcomed him with "We like and appreciate the Navy," to which the crowd responded (on cue):
But we LOVE the Coast Guard.

(146,286 posts)He knows nothing about the Coast Guard, and isn't interested. In fact, he wants to cut its budget to pay for part of his wall. So, he blathered on about himself and his miserable existence.

There were several speakers at my college graduation, a teacher, a parent and a student. NONE of them talked about themselves.
I guess someone could have done a worse job but it is hard to imagine.

(11,448 posts)Glad to know they are out there. Bright red helicopters swing over my house all the time. They have base 20 min from here do boat exercises there.
