The red herring subset of "Tu quoque":

Simply put, whataboutism refers to the bringing up of one issue in order to distract from the discussion of another. It does not apply to the comparison and analysis of two similar issues in terms such as why some are given more social prominence than others.

He (Trumpenflunky) sounds like a bratty little pre-schooler, who got caught scribling on the wall with a magic marker, crying because his older, more mature sister was using markers too (but she was drawing pretty pictures in an artist's pad).

Saw a cartoon of Obama and Trump each doing their artistic best to draw a Presidential Seal. Trump had crayons, Obama had oils and an easel. Can't find it now.

The cult attached to his persona from his asinine scripted reality show, may explain why none of the very real and pervasive criticism of him starting with his speech entering the race, his attack on McCain, his attack on a Hoosier judge with Mexican ancestry etc were not, as every pundit predicted they would be, something that would destroy his campaign. Trump may have been right about one thing - his base would not have left him had he shot someone on Fifth Avenue.

The scary thing is that he will be overseas representing the United States for 9 days starting tomorrow. What is pretty sad is that the current bar that seems to exist is that he will be seen as doing better than expected if he does not create a major faux pas. I will predict right now that the brilliant new President of France, in office about one week, will be far more useful and Presidential. I certainly never worried that Obama or either of his SoS would embarrass the US.

Not to mention, Comey DID investigate HRC ... and Obama did not fire him. Lynch actually removed herself from that investigation. To my knowledge Obama himself absolutely did not interfere with that investigation or the one of the State Department IG. As to the State Department IG, Secretary Kerry stayed at hands length from the investigation.

Now, Comey COULD HAVE investigated Trump -- he was doing just that - until Trump fired him! Now, it was Trump's DOJ that has appointed a special counsel.

What is extraordinary is that the President put Flynn in the White House as NSA knowing he was an illegally not registered lobbyist for the dictator of Turkey and under FBI investigation for ties with Russia. Not to mention, the President gave intelligence from Israel to Russia, putting their spy in danger and obviously destroying all the work getting him/her undercover with ISIS. It would be extraordinary if there were NO call for an independent investigation.

Fox will support its viewership, and they support Rump.

I'm remembering these sorts gave Nixon and W high approval through two terms each. No matter what they did, the vast majority of conservatives stayed loyal and only fell away in the very last year of each when it was clear they weren't going to have time to pull out some magic winning trick.

In fact, this reminds me of that Russian writer who says what is most sure to turn conservatives against an authoritarian leader is coming to believe they backed a loser. That might just happen enormously sooner with this "winner"!

The entire process of removing this man from office is not a given nor will anything about it be easy in any way. The men impeached in the past at least had intelligence. They had an awareness of the reality of their actions.
Not this dangerous ogre. He is beyond comprehension of how immature and ignorant he is about everyone and everything.
This man is nothing but deformed ego out of control.

And because of the soulless, power-twisted Republican thugs around him, any take down will be extremely difficult. They enable and support his lunacy to further their own anti-humanity agenda.

....Hume.

He's talking to his base.

He's giving FOX a narrative that allows them to continue to frame the "we non-elite, white, 'real' Amuricans are being victimized". He's stoking their rage and sense of unfairness. He's teaching them to never kick up against the rich guy who's crushing them.

He's a master manipulator of RW media and memes and we need to start providing phrases that call him "Un-American", "anti-the Founding Fathers", "unfair". Calling him "petulant", while more than true, stokes their resentment. The problem with their resentment is that the GOP controls just about every gear of government right now.

We need to out-maneuver him and quit falling into this trap.

Nor did Russia.

Many of us are hoarse from calling the Democrats to beg them to make redistricting and voter suppression a top priority that they would address in a way that would get MSM coverage. They were would mention it, but only in passing---and essentially did very little to nothing. For decades. And so, across the board, here we are.

There are problems that are not all at the doorstep of Russia or the mess created by Comey. In any event, even if HRC had prevailed, I think both houses of Congress would have been lost.

The "stupid" GOP has managed to out-fox us. We need to change tactics and strategy and get a lot more fierce. My hope is that Perez will do a more adequate job.

The Special Prosecutor appointment cannot be ignored. Up until now FOX has been able to successfully pretend to their audience that there was nothing going on with these investigations. They even pretended that the investigations had very little if anything to do with Trump. Mueller's appointment drops a big bomb on that whole narrative. They can no longer ignore the White House that is in crisis. It would be like Godzilla attacking Manhattan and you lead your broadcast with news about a parade for girl scouts followed by 12 hours of riveting coverage of middle school playground improvements.

I'm sure they'll do everything in their power to minimize the story, but it's no longer something they can ignore all together.

In that for many years he's had the attitude that he is a superior being, better than everyone else. He thinks he is royalty, with a divine right to lord it over others. It goes right along with the dictator chic he's adopted for his homes, and his claim that only he can fix what's supposedly wrong with America.

For Trump, the problem is that his critics don't realize how great he really is. That makes them Public Enemy #1.
