... We also looked at Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson's prospects if he were to run for President as a Democrat. 36% of voters see Johnson favorably to 13% with a negative view of him, although 50% of voters have no opinion about him either way. Both Democrats (38/15) and Republicans (31/17) see him positively. Johnson would lead Trump 42/37 in a prospective contest, and wins over 15% of people who supported Trump last fall.Public Policy Polling surveyed 692 registered voters between May 12th and 14th. The margin of error is +/- 3.7%. 80% of participants, selected through a list based sample, responded via the phone, while 20% of respondents who did not have landlines conducted the survey over the internet through an opt-in internet panel.

(2,990 posts)WWE is one of my guilty pleasures. And I loved The Rock.
But please no more celebrity politicians. Just give me a boring, traditional, typical, politician.

(2,807 posts)I think Dwayne Johnson is extremely intelligent, he is very friendly, charming even. He is funny as hell, a talented entertainer, good father and husband.
But that Americans think that media figures would be good Governmental employees says quite a bit about this country.

(11,837 posts)Is ANYONE paying attention? Do we really want to sped one second discussing running another political neophyte to head the government.
Experience counts for something.

(43,155 posts)Nothing against The Rock--he's a fairly entertaining actor and I've enjoyed several of his movies--but can we put aside the notion of a political novice celebrity (or business person, for that matter) running for President.
It does not "take one to beat one". Really, it doesn't.
Just give me someone smart, competent, engaging with a good working sense of the ins-and-outs of government.
We're not living in a reality show.

(14,971 posts)and the National Review had an article a couple days ago extolling his virtues. Good God, no. Republicans are so desperate they'll try to get him to run. I don't think the Rock will like the cut in pay.
Proud Liberal Dem
(24,396 posts)but then again, neither did Arnie. Based on his policy stances, Arnie was overall pretty progressive for a Republican. Are him and Johnson Republicans basically just because of their monstrous wealth and (probable) desire for tax cuts?
Nonetheless, I agree with most of the people here that we need to get back to having sane and competent leadership in DC again after we somehow manage to clean out DC from the Trump disaster in 2020 (at the latest), though I think that Republicans have completely lost the moral high ground to complain about pretty much anybody's qualifications to be POTUS at this point and I honestly can't imagine how we get somebody worse than Trump in the WH (but then again I thought that too about GWB and boy was I wrong).

(8,684 posts)I like the guy. I do.
But after republican45, having an actual TV wrestling personality as president hits a lot closer to a Terry Cruz 'Idiocracy' feel and I just couldn't vote for him.

(25,154 posts)I think he's liberal.
How about Kevin Spacey?
He's a Dem. He could run on president with the slogan: "I'm more evil than Trump".
Or George Clooney.
I don't know if he's ever played a president, but he looks the part.

(19,224 posts)I have the displeasure of saying I voted for him, along with a huge contingent of fellow college students at the time. The idea of Governor "The Body" Ventura was a very alluring draw for young, low-information voters at the time, and I'm not so sure it would be any different this time around with President "The Rock" Johnson.
