Hmmm... looks like it was rear-ended, causing it to go into the sidewalk. demmiblue May 2017 #1

Edit: it appears that I am wrong. Dang, that is scary in such a populated area.

I hope everyone is okay, and that this was just an accident and not intentional.

These anchored posts should be scattered in pedestrian thoroughfares in big cities to disable cars from getting very far on a sidewalk.

Perhaps they're going to need to install more of those. It seems we need such barriers these days.

They could disguise them as art or lighting.

They don't have to be everywhere. Just scattered every 20 feet or so where pedestrians walk to prevent a vehicle from getting very far intentionally or accidentally if it veers onto a sidewalk or into a pedestrian courtyard.

I wish I had invested in a company that makes them. Sales are going to be up for some time, I think.

TMZ:

http://m.tmz.com/#article/2017/05/18/times-square-crash-driver-richard-rojas-photos/

Law enforcement sources tell us Rojas admitted smoking marijuana Thursday morning before he got behind the wheel. Police say he drove the wrong way on 7th Ave for a few blocks before swerving onto the sidewalk at 42nd street and accelerating through the crowd for 3 blocks.

Cops say Rojas has previous arrests for DWI, one in 2008 and one in 2013. His most recent arrest was earlier this year for menacing.

NYPD confirmed the victim who died on scene was an 18-year-old girl, and at least 22 others were injured.

But it looks to be a DWI accident. Very sad and tragic.
