The St. Louis Six - a tale of courage, determination and second chances!

?resize=1200%2C855
Six steers that ran amok on the streets of north St. Louis last week after escaping from a neighborhood slaughterhouse have a new lease on life — and a possible future grazing on the lush pasture of a Tennessee animal sanctuary.

The steers — including Chico, who dodged police and animal control officers during a dramatic five-hour bid for freedom that included a crash through an iron fence — were picked up Monday morning from the slaughterhouse, Star Packing Co., and taken to an area farm.

They had been waiting at the slaughterhouse in limbo since late Thursday as a stampede of sometimes-feuding groups tried to save them from slaughter after their recapture.

They are now safe with the Gentle Barn, who opened a St. Louis satellite to help the steers.
Here's the whole gang!

These rescued cows will be sent there to live out their lives, as well as many other animals in the future. The deadline to raise the money is June 2nd, or they will lose the St. Louis farm.

Gentle Barn currently has two other sanctuaries in California & Tennessee. They do wonderful work to help both neglected & abused animals.

"The Gentle Barn rescues animals from severe abuse and neglect who are too old, sick, lame, or scared to be adopted into homes. We are sanctuary to horses, donkeys, cows, pigs, sheep, goats, turkeys, chickens, llamas, peacocks, emus, cats and dogs. Once rehabilitated, the animals help us give hope and inspiration to children with the same stories."

Read more about their mission at www.gentlebarn.org

They are currently raising money on a gofundme page at https://www.gofundme.com/gentlebarnstlouis

If you are able, please consider a small donation to help their mission.

I've been following all their animals in both California & Tennessee for the past year.

Thanks for posting their story!

I think they're at about $104,000. Not a shabby start! For the St. Louis Six! One has passed, sadly.
