Watching The Charlotte Campbell Interviews Is Gut Wrenching

Hearing her desperate to find her daughter, while we all know she is probably dead, is making my blood boil. That these Sons Of Bitches have no regard, and instead of thinking like normal people with a heart, they are probably laughing in this mother's distress. This mother will NEVER EVER be the same. The remainder of her life will be completely different than the first part. She will probably die sooner than she would have, and her whole demeanor will change.

First, why can't the authorities let the victims' families have any sort of word about their children. Surely they know whether this girl is among the dead. Why the 100% Certainty bullshit? I can understand wanting to be certain, but they must know. The person she was with is in the hospital, so it's clear to me that she was likely hit by shrapnel.

I don't see any way to win this war. How can you know when the next attack is going to happen? There will always be another. And over here, we have our own problems with guns. As if terrorism is not enough to worry about, we have so-called wonderful ex-military guys driving over and killing teens in Times Square. And plain ol' white men shooting up schools, movie theaters, and shopping malls.

I guess this is the new norm. The luck of the draw. You're at the wrong place, at the wrong time, and so your life is over. You could have been raised well. Healthy, educated, financially secure, and then bam. The end. The odds are still in your favor, that nothing will happen to you. We're all still here, reading DU, right? But it's that one time, and you just don't know if it will ever happen to you. Surely not going out on a Monday night to see 22 year old Arianna Grande.

Since Islam has so many more proscriptions against it than even Christianity, the "martyr loophole" is how Islamists seek to do the job, the overriding aim to kill an enemy rather than end their own lives, suicide becoming incidental.

It's hard to wrap our heads around any sort of mindset that would consider an audience of preteen and young teen little girls anyone's enemy but logic isn't what is at work here.

There have been a couple of decent studies lately: https://www.scientificamerican.com/mind/ and https://www.newscientist.com/article/mg21929240-200-martyr-myth-inside-the-minds-of-suicide-bombers/ are two I've read today.

If this is true, then Islam itself is going to have to close the martyr loophole.

They don't consider themselves terrorists, but I do. They shoot in public without regard and with the intent of instilling fear. They feel powerful and dominant. Sick of it. It has nothing to do with poverty and it's all about choices. I always wonder if people are so poor, how do they afford automatics.
