Why Is Only One of These People Smiling?

Look at this image closely. Except for Donald Trump, who is wearing an idiotic grin, everyone else in this photo is looking grim. As usual, Trump appears to be clueless. Now, I don't know what happened the second before this photo was taken, but everyone but Trump is looking serious, at a minimum, or is feeling some other emotion.

And Donald Trump grins stupidly. That says it all.

Melania often displays open contempt for Donald Trump in her facial expressions. It seems clear to me that she harbors an intense dislike for that man. Ivanka is harder to read. Her expression in that photo is completely neutral. Blank.

The Pope, on the other hand, usually smiles during such photo ops. He is certainly not smiling in this one.

in prison to me. Ivanka looks like she simply shut off her switch and is no longer present. The Pope looks worried, but Trump just stands there with a stupid grin on his face.

I can't really put my finger on it, but it really unsettles me. Something about the satanic looking grin on Trump's face and the look of dread on the faces of the others.

However, I watched video of that meeting. The Pope was notable in it for not smiling. I suspect he is silently praying for Trump to no longer be President. Melania is pissed off even to be on this trip with him. Ivanka is hard to read. She's pretty good at neutral expressions like the one in this photo. She knows that Trump is in over his head and shouldn't be in that office, I'm sure. But...I'm not sure she can do a damned thing about her father's idiocy.

I'm not a fan of anyone in that photograph. I just find it an interesting snapshot of several unhappy people and a grinning clown.

Trump is disconnected from reality, and reacts according to whatever script is running in his head. He doesn't know what the others' expressions show, but he thinks he's supposed to be smiling for the camera, so he does that.

It is a mindless sort of grin that exposed nothing at all, because there is nothing really going on in that man's brain, really. He is reacting to situations by rote.

But there are just as many pictures of him scowling like they just told him he is being impeached. He has been in the limelight long enough to know that he is being photographed constantly so, for this trip, I've noticed a lot of the Big Smile. Let's see how much smiling he does when he has to come face to face with NATO members after the nasty remarks he has said in the past about them. Or characterizing Brussels as a "hell hole". His reception there should be ....shall we say? Interesting?? LOL.
