10k turnout for "Trump not welcome march" in Brussels, Belgium

/excerpt
"Trump not Welcome March" targets the president

24/5/17 - A "Trump not Welcome" march got underway from the Brussels North Station around 5PM - though protesters claimed they have nothing against Trump himself, but rather against his policies. Organisers asked participants to wear a pussy hat to highlight women's rights or rather the lack of it. The demonstration attracted demonstrators from various fields - climate, peace and women's rights and equal rights campaigners. Organisers had hoped for 10,000 protesters, but it looked as if they had to be content with some 6,000 (according to police).

Short video at link! (flemish public news channel)

Note: the number of protesters was later upped to 9000 (police count) and 12000 (organiser count).

In this item (in dutch, scroll down a little) you can see the upped count, and: pics! Of which you can find many more checking out #TrumpNotWelcome, if you are partial to Twitter. On edit: I see demmiblue's thread assembles some of those tweets.

The demo originated within the climate justice movement, but was joined by some 70 organisations, including the unions, organisations for peace and against NATO and of course, women's rights. Some slogans: "Even my dog doesn't like you - and she likes everyone" and "MIS-leader".

Thought you might be happy to learn of this, didn't see it posted round here.

regards
bmc

PS: in radio news, the key point made upon Trump's arrival at the Royal Palace was: "only journalists around, and not one US flag in sight".
PS2: in my rural neck of the flanders fields, I saw 4 protesters getting on a bus to go get a train to Brussels

as per this Politico.eu article:

"Natalie Eggermont, a student at the Free University of Brussels, helped organize the anti-Trump protest with three other college students. They were inspired by the Women’s March, which drew several million people across the U.S. in January.

Eggermont said she wanted to show Trump that his political ideas are not welcome in Belgium — and she wanted to send a message to her country’s leaders not to follow the president’s lead."

Nice, ey

Wish we could all strike in protest of the KGOP coup, the siege on our government, the stain on our democracy, until such time as it could be toppled legally. I'm sick to my stomach at the constant drip drip drip that 66 million of the majority of Americans are led around by the minority, a bunch of low information types.
