He reminds me of his grandfather Bobby who is my political hero.
I think he'd be a great running mate for Kamala Harris

(16,672 posts)I'd like him whether he was a Kennedy or not, but his name won't hurt with most folks

(16,672 posts)I had the same feeling about Obama and even Bill Clinton when he talked forever at the 1988 convention when he was practically an unknown. LOL I have the same about Kennedy.. There's just something about him. Kamala too.. We need them.

(811 posts)I worked on his grandfather's 1968 campaign as a 10-year-old volunteer.
Maybe I'll have a chance to finsh things out with the grandson?
Keeping my eye on this one.

(16,672 posts)I went down every day after school to stuff envelopes etc. I never got over his assassination.
I would love to see Joe rise to the top - like you said maybe he can finish what Bobby tried to do.

(811 posts)My mother, who had heard the news that night, didn't have the heart to tell me until the morning. She knew how devastated I would be. The whole family mourned. I was sick.
My father later edited a tribute film to RFK that I believe aired on ABC called The Unfinished Journey of Robert F. Kennedy.
I got to meet Bobby in Watts and to shake his hand. After Martin Luther King and the killing of JFK (which I'm sure we both remember), the killing of RFK was a body blow.
He'd be proud of his grandson, I'm sure.
I studded envelopes too. Or any other sort of scut work I could do to (happliy) allow the more senior operatives time to do other things.
Keep the dream alive!

(16,672 posts)You can only imagine how the nuns handled it
I grew up in Wilmington and I wanted to go see him so bad at Bixby Park in Long Beach but my mom wouldn't let me go with my older siblings. It broke my heart though I understand why now.
I think I have carried his dream in me all these years - I have told my grandson about him more than once. I'm gonna watch his grandson close and work his campaign if it ever comes to it

I'd have thought they'd be sympathetic, given RFK was RC, but I'm not sure how to read the emoticon.
Friends in Catholic schools in those times had some tales of some pretty tough nuns, so I'm unable to imagine.
I was forced to go to school that day. I loved going to school. I never missed, unless I was really sick. That day I did not want to go. I just wanted to stay in my room and grieve.
It was a bloody hell of a day. I tear up just thinking about it.
We'd be living in a very different country today.

(16,672 posts)They were strict but not mean They were devastated on many levels. It was hard for me to see them lose that oh so stoic demeanor they had. They were crying yet trying to comfort us at the same time. We had prayers over the PA in our classrooms. I remember the feeling that I saw they were normal people like the rest of us that day. I still see some of them once in a while and they are amazing women. I'm so glad I didn't have the mean ones.

To this day he will not talk about what it was like over there.

(1,124 posts)how would he have changed the county? I believe we would have been far better off today if he had not been struck down by an assassin's bullet. I still weep when I think of him ...
Joe Kennedy is sounding more and more like a true leader the more I hear him speak. I can see him helping the nation heal and as President one day (maybe in the not too distant future). I hope more and more people from the same cloth are elected.

Independents and real old-school Republicans will respond to him.
