Psychologists have a duty to warn the country about Trump:We can no longer pretend that he is stable

http://www.nydailynews.com/opinion/psychologists-duty-warn-country-trump-article-1.3160022

QUOTE

Much has been written about Trump having Narcissistic Personality Disorder. But as critics have pointed out, merely saying a leader is narcissistic is hardly disqualifying. But Trump, I believe, suffers from a severe version, called malignant narcissism, which, like a malignant tumor, is deadly to the healthy cells around it.

The diagnosis was first introduced by the famous analyst Erich Fromm, a refugee from Nazi Germany, to explain the psychology of Hitler. Malignant narcissism combines narcissism with paranoia, anti-social personality, and sadism.

Trump’s dozens of bizarre conspiracy theories, his false sense of victimization and his demonization of the press, minorities and anyone who opposes him is textbook paranoia. Trump’s “repeated lying,” “disregard for and violation of the rights of others” (Trump University fraud and multiple sexual assaults) and “lack of remorse” meet diagnostic criteria for Anti-Social Personality.

And, like most sadists, Trump has been a bully since childhood, and his thousands of vicious tweets make him perhaps the most prolific cyberbully in history.

except that as much as we lose sight of it, the fact is that this country has been brainwashed over the last three decades to believe that "liberals" are the living embodiment of Satan.

SO, 1/3 of the country literally could care less how unhinged he is, as a republican he is fighting the holy battle against liberals.

AND, another 1/3 have been so disaffected, they can't distinguish what is worse, him or the evil liberal boogyman.

Not to be a jerk, but all these psychological analysis are just preaching to the choir.

control of their minds, so brainwashed for past decades and ready to inflict harm upon themselves and others as exemplified by their worshiping of Trump no matter what he does to them and others. It's sickening to watch and even more so being forced to participate in it by an inept congress who willfully allows it to continue.

who knows when one comment might change someone's mind. And changing one mind might influence someone else. And so on.

He is VERY clearly what he is.

There have literally been 1,000s of examples brought the public's attention since he came down the elevator, and all it does is calcify the right's support of him and falls on death ears for most others at this point because of 45 fatigue.

NOW, I do agree we have to keep trying, but we have to go where the fight can actually level the playing field.

The primary divider is the hate framing of liberals.

We need top bringing plastic sporks to that knife fight and start to call conservatism and republicans for the disaster they are.

THAT is the fight. And not in our high minded way, we have to find simple, catchy one or two word phrases and get the herd of cats so bellow them relentlessly like cons do.

I spoke to a niece last week who is Republican. Instead of talking about trump, I talked about growing up in the Cold War and how scary it was. I talked about how stabilizing NATO was. I talked about relatives who organized for Republic Steel in the late 1930s and about one who was shot and wounded by US Army troops. I talked about how hopeful my generation was that the next generation would have it better. And my concern that no one in her generation has job security or respect for their labor. I got in that the working person has his/her labor to offer and deserves a fair wage and a safe work place for that labor. Planting seeds.

Trump is simply the dangerous President to ever occupy the White House. The saddest part is that Mike Pence would be a lot safer, but also a lot more effective.

and I never will. Our country isn't for sale. It isn't ripe for conquest. And even if trump doesn't care how he affects the reputation of the White House or the U.S.A. a majority of people do care and will fight.

As the media and most on this site are consumed by his antics and fireball tweets and statements, structural changes are being made to our government which get little to no coverage by the media. Examples are the, EPA, State Department, military, commerce.

Could he be the troller in chief, instead of psycho???

He and his people may have had the skills to crunch the numbers and troll the right voters to get his win.

But the shift from campaigning "WINNER!" to actually governing and doing his job seems to be undoing him.

Although, yes, the rightwing agenda is proceeding full speed. Not sure how long they can maintain the whole thing

Fromm's 1973 book "The Anatomy of Human Destructiveness" speaks of "leaders" like Trump. More, he explains how they come to power.

.....has a band of malignant narcissists to back up his sadism.

The thing is---I'm not sure Pence is technically one of them. I think he's just a sadist. He'll get the McConnell/Ryan job done more effectively than Trump will. He scares me even more than T because he puts a "reasonable" face on "abnormal" policies.

After Trump, Pence would be seen as good, while his policies would be worse than Trump's. Pence is also sneaky, so would quietly make changes unnoticed by most until too late.

That people are very different in person (and when being evaluated by professionals).

OK.

Then - they tell us the Corrupt One's appeal to 'the people' is his no-holds-barred "authenticity"!

when a gop doctor diagnosed Terry Schiavo, when her husband wanted to end her suffering. Even non-medically trained citizens can plainly see SOMETHING is wrong with Agent Orange. He is like an overgrown child, in a bloated grown up body. He is causing damage that will take years to repair, if ever. Not only to this government, but to the country.

Let's also apply this to everyday life so that any and all are subject to firing if some psychologist offers a Dx that convinces a board of directors. Don't think it couldn't happen to other people if this idea catches on.
