As Independence Day 2017 approaches...

I can honestly say I've never felt less patriotic than I do right now, due to the Marmalade Maniac and those who elected him. July 4 used to be my favorite holiday of the year. I've always looked forward to dressing in red, white and blue and wearing my fake sunglasses that have The Statue of Liberty on one side and the U.S. flag on the other. In the past, I've always changed my Facebook cover photo to something patriotic on July 4. The parades and other special programming that day have always been something I've enjoyed in the past. This year, I don't feel like doing or enjoying any of those things--and probably won't--again, due to the Marmalade Maniac and his supporters. I may rent a movie from Amazon Prime. I've already seen "The Brainwashing of My Dad" but somehow, it seems the most appropriate.

1. This is a very difficult time to be a liberal right now.

But as shitty as this year has been, we must power through it. 2018 is coming and we must take down Trump, McConnell, and the Russian cabal.

2. I'll pass completely

and stay home, windows closed after dark against the black clouds of burned gunpowder. I'll be grateful not to be working and hving to deal with the consequences of mixing alcohol and explosives, but that's the only positive emotion I'll feel this year.

I have seen a difference already: usually every big parking lot around here sports a fireworks tent. I haven't seen a single one of those on my side of town this year. My neighbors will still have a supply of bootleg illegal Mexican fireworks, of course, but it seems that everybody knows there's a damper on enthusiasm this year outside the GOP McMansion areas.

It's 1 of my "High Holy Days", & I have been struggling, too.. dealing with personal stuff AND the political mess.
Here's what I am doing, & will be doing..

I have been watching my 2 favorite Ken Burns' series, LEWIS & CLARK, & NATIONAL PARKS. They inspire me SO much, I find m'Self deeply touched & nurtured by them.
I have been listening to music that heals my Spirit.
Classical music, Alabama Shakes, Allman Brothers, R&B, old protest anthems(CSNY, Dan Fogerty, etc) & Willie Nelson.
I HIGHLY recommend listening to Willie's LIVING IN THE PROMISE LAND, right frickin now.
I bawl my eyes out, play it over and over, singing along(loud & off key!) & by the 4th or 5th play, I am no longer in tears, but full of strength & determination, ready to stand up for Justice &the BEST in America.
I have been calling & emailing my elected officials.
Will be doing that tomorrow, too. Tomorrow, I'll take a ride & get a little Beach Therapy.
I'll be checking in on "the Rainbow Family Gathering"..I've gone twice, life-changing experiences..(will go again, probably..maybe I will post about my experience sometime.)
Tuesday am, my tradition is silent meditation till noon. Then, usually celebrate.. towns' fireworks are always great, though I am not sure I'll do that this year. I will pay close attention to Self Care, & be thankFULL.
So, that's my plan. Take goood Care of YourSelf & follow Your Heart.
