Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump has the highest level security clearances, even as they were less than forthcoming on their applications.

But did you know that Robert Oppenheimer - the guy who ran the Manhattan Project to develop the atom bomb during WWII - had his security clearance taken away by Joe McCarthy? It seems that Mr. Oppenheimer, after the war, became a very outspoken advocate for atomic bomb (and atomic power) regulation and control. This pissed off a lot of Republicans. McCarthy applied the coup de grace. Oppenheimer lost pretty much all his political power and his career was destroyed.

3. The China Hands were all destroyed by McCarthyism

The same type of irrational hysteria led Republicans to attack a group of American diplomats that were known as The China Hands. These were a group of highly educated Americans that grew up in China, mostly as children of missionaries and saw the loss of "the mandate from Heaven" by the nationalist regime and the agrarian revolution that would be successful under Mao.

They were persecuted for telling the truth. The brightest of these, and the one that was most unfairly treated was John Stewart Service.

They were humiliated and prosecuted mercilessly and thrown out of the State Department which led to terrible miscalculations in Korea. A "dumbed down" Asia section in the State Department soon found itself completely over its head when Vietnam slild into conflict.
