Confederate flag waving protester accidentally shoots himself at a rally

Shippensburg man accidentally shoots himself in leg at Gettysburg National Military Park
h

GETTYSBURG, Adams County, Pa. -- A Cumberland County man is being treated for a gunshot wound, after accidentally shooting himself in the leg early Saturday afternoon.

Benjamin Hornberger, 23, of Shippensburg, was at the First Amendment Demonstration by the Meade Equestrian Statue on Hancock Avenue, when his personal revolver accidentally discharged into his leg just before 1:00 p.m. Saturday.

A near-by National Park Service Officer, quickly applied a tourniquet to Hornberger's leg to stop the bleeding.

It was an American flag.

Here is a story about this kid from during the campaign. Apparently he was an Obama supporter who switched over to Trump. (The article says he worked for the Obama campaign after high school).

Interestingly there is a lot of into on this person online. He is one of those "former Obama voters who voted for Trump" people that we hear so much about.

"A self-described "patriot" who went to Gettysburg National Military Park on Saturday following rumors that members of an alt-left group would be there to desecrate Confederal memorials, shot himself in the leg with his own revolver. "

Other self-described patriots nearby said they had just talked to the man who was injured and that he came by himself to the park because of the planned demonstrations. He was not part of any specific group, but was just there as a patriot, they said.

The demonstrations were situated in a different part of the park than the reenactments Saturday.

But the story I linked to was just lifted from the AFP and reprinted verbatim on the Daily Mail site. They are the only site that still have the article available for free that I could find. If you can find the AFP story itself, I'll switch it out.

I agree that The Daily Mail is as awful as Fox News.

Edit to add: Found a better link to the AFP article - I'll delete the Daily Mail link.

Gun Toting Confederate fans are as insane as anyone.

These sub human vermin just will not go away, still whining about the "war of northern aggression".

Every time they hit the news I am reminded of the most disturbing X-File" episode ever, about the Peacock family....I think that episode is only available on DVD now.

But he is the American flag waving type, not confederate flag.

I would point out that there is a lot of bad/sloppy reporting about this incident.

Best to go to the first-hand accounts from people who were actually there (many can be found online).

Keep that avenue of free speech alive.

Seems he is a little closer to knowing what it feels like to actually be a part of the confederacy.

Benjamin Hornberger is only 22 but not too young for a little grandiloquence. The 2016 presidential election, he says, is "really do or die."

The tireless volunteer who is canvassing for Republican candidate Donald Trump is one of millions hoping to sweep the New York billionaire into the White House.

White, male and lacking a university diploma, he typifies Trump backers who are often less interested in the candidate's economic ideas than his promise to "Make America Great Again."

. . .

Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton draws only contempt from Hornberger, who says she represents elites and the status quo.
