TPM: Stephen Hawking: Trump's Action Could Push The Earth Over The Brink

http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/hawking-paris-climate-withdraw-damages-earth-irreversibly

Global warming is nearly irreversible, according to Cambridge professor and world-renowned scientist Stephen Hawking, who spoke to BBC News about climate change and President Donald Trump this past weekend.

“We are close to the tipping point where global warming becomes irreversible. Trump’s action could push the Earth over the brink, to become like Venus, with a temperature of two hundred and fifty degrees, and raining sulphuric acid,” he said.

He said that by pulling out of the Paris Climate Agreement to reduce CO2 emissions, Trump is causing “avoidable environmental damage to our beautiful planet, endangering the natural world, for us and for our children.”

and everyone (in every country) should take whatever actions we can to avoid catastrophe.

This, however, cannot stand: 'Anyone who voted for this monster must never be allowed to live it down.'

We MUST relearn kindness and tolerance. Failing to do so will leave us as devastated as will failing to address global warming.

And I do wish I had more empathy with people with who I disagree. That said, it becomes a lot harder to do with something this serious.

You always have a way of pointing us, even in resistance, towards a positive message!

Undoubtedly, we will manage to severely disrupt the climate. But I've heard other scientists opine that there isn't enough trapped carbon on Earth to transform us to Venus-like conditions.
