he threw 6 families out of their homes.

Howard and Betty Height are not the governor, but they have a house on Island Beach State Park.
So do five other families.
But while Gov. Chris Christie and his family tanned, the other families burned -- with anger.
The other Island Beach residents were ordered out of the homes Friday night under the threat of arrest. They packed up and drove off, right past the governor's summer retreat, its lights ablaze with activity.
The other Island Beach residents pre-date Christie by a half-century. They were grandfathered-in back in 1953 when the state bought the island to make it a park.

(3,847 posts)I hope they don't settle either. This has be shown to the entire country and make the wrath of the people known. Granted it will be only get press because they are rich and white. Seems the "others" in our country aren't so lucky.

(128,844 posts)from a personal suit - and particularly if it had to do with a government shutdown. I wouldn't be surprised if they requested a waiver of a couple years worth of property taxes as a settlement given the state has the highest property taxes in the country.

(5,106 posts)Others who had private beach front property could do the same as he was doing (?) Having work summers at the Jersey Shore when I was in college, I remember that the Fourth was a HUGE tourist weekend. Surely restaurants and boardwalk businesses are suffering major losses.

(12,448 posts)It's actually green algae which has environmental benefits, unlike Christie. Christie is more like the black mold that forms in the bathroom. (I'm currently waging WAR on my bathroom's black mold.)

(12,448 posts)I'll definitely try it. I've been using a commercial bleach-based spray which sort of works, but the straight bleach sounds like a plan.

(31,261 posts)black mold. At any rate, try the chlorine bleach solution. Have the area vented well because it has a kick. BTW, I tried the commercial mold solutions, they work some, but I still had a problem.

(10,270 posts)I wasnt cool with the optics when everybody got told
'Guvs house is on the beach. Wanna be on the beach, then run for guv, because I figured other people live on that state park beach too and therefore also have the RIGHT BY OWNERSHIP TO BE THERE.
Yeah, they're going to sue the fuck out of him. How does he even remotely have the right to throw somebody out of their own home because 'the budget'? If anything, I would bet the standards for owning and maintaining a home inside a state park are HIGHER than the surrounding community and I doubt seriously that the State is going to help anybody with that additional financial burden.
Lastly, if I were a resident my argument would be related to the one Christie himself made, ie, the BEACH is Public, and of therefore, closed. My HOUSE is private, and as long I'm not ( apperently, in my own friggin backyard, which the State also part-owns) everythings cool and you can fuck right off. But here's the rub...even THAT logic isn't enough for the pleebes, but it sure as hell is good enough for Chris Christie.

(4,252 posts)I went to it as a teenager with my boyfriend who surfed there. There were also surf fishermen. When I married and visited NJ with my family we visited there. It has a natural beauty. I remember there were no restaurants, just a hot dog ice cream stand by the restrooms.
restaurants and rides on the state' s town boardwalks along side the private pay to go on beaches did not lose any money. I am sure they were packed more than they would be otherwise.
It is sad those families who had houses (bungalows) were not allowed to enjoy them. I hope they do sue the state and Christie.
