Study: Seattles $15 Minimum Wage WORKED

"SNIP...............

Contrary to the common right-wing talking point that raising the minimum wage leads to economic disaster, a recent study conducted by the University of California Berkeley has found just the opposite.

The UC Berkeley researchers used Seattle, which instituted a $15-per-hour minimum wage on January 1 of this year, as a case study to examine the effects of increasing the minimum wage.

The researchers used the rest of Washington’s economy as a control to predict what would have happened in Seattle if there hadn’t been the minimum wage increase.

The study found that since the new law went into effect, wages have increased, unemployment has decreased and the total number of hours worked is up, meaning employers aren’t cutting hours to account for the higher minimum wage.

Then again, we are all clear that propaganda is rampant.

This article explains the differences different research teams have found.

Of course a higher wage is better! One has to wonder who funds each study or maybe a Seattle DU team could interview a 100 or so fast food workers...the horses mouth model.

cynicism abounds

There have been 6 economic collapses already this year since this terrible law was enacted.

Don't let the traffic at rush hour fool you. All those people are unemployed and just driving around aimlessly. The people setting on sunny restaurant terraces are spending their very liberal unemployment checks on cheap wine and watered down beer served with a flourish.

Given the present situation a is called for.

Today's Sheldon Adelson owned Review Journal was all negative about Seattle and how the 15 dollar minimum was killing business. Sheldon is scared shitless that his non union Workers would see a pay raise so those as he calls them, my workers, could finally not have to rely on food shelves and pantries for their kids.

Trust me what costs you IS NOT a reasonable pay scale,it's the endless training of new people. Pay people MORE and they will stay with you. When they are trained and know what the hell they are doing then productivity goes through the roof.

Pay them MW or a nickle above and watch the revolving door of people coming and going and endless training. In the companies I owned I never paid MW,couldn't afford to. When MW was around 3.80 I had a commercial mowing company with two trucks, two crews. I started people at 7.00 and gave them more IF they came in on time and worked.

If I could do it as a small time business owner all those years ago these MEGA Corporations can sure as hell pull it off.

MW was 3.35 and you could have an apartment ( at least a one bedroom ) by yourself w/o having to have 6 other people with you. You could pay the utilities if they were not included with the rent. feed yourself decent food. Have a little savings and go out once in awhile. No, you could not go to a fancy restaurant or go to another country for a vacation or go out every week and spend a lot of money but you could do more than barely survive. 3.35 sounds like so little but back then it fully supported you unlike 7.00 or even 8.00 does these days.
