Rep.Scalise readmitted to ICU in serious condition due to 'concerns for infection'

ABC News

Rep. Steve Scalise, who was shot in the hip June 14 when a gunman opened fire at a baseball practice of Republican lawmakers in Virginia, has been readmitted to the intensive care unit in serious condition at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, the hospital announced Wednesday night.

"Congressman Steve Scalise has been readmitted to the Intensive Care Unit at MedStar Washington Hospital Center due to new concerns for infection," MedStar said in a statement. "His condition is listed as serious. We will provide another update tomorrow, July 6."

Scalise, the No. 3 House GOP leader, was upgraded to fair condition and moved out of ICU in late June, the hospital said at the time, adding that he was "beginning an extended period of healing and rehabilitation."

Sending up prayers for a fellow human being. This is horrible. That shooting happened in my community. It happened right next to the park where we take our dogs. This shooting was way to damn close to home.

I am still shaken about it.

Bad place for a bullet (is there a good one?) In the first place but for infection, deadly. So much there in that area. Poor guy, I feel for his family. Don't like him either but....

Once he's outta danger and back to work-let 'er rip. For now humane rules the day.

YMMV.

Focus the anger someplace where it might do some good. Focus it someplace where it doesn't offer a huge PR nightmare. Try not to act heartless--like we accuse them of being for attacking the healthcare of millions...

Again, I say, YMMV.

And that was 23 years ago, before MRSA was wide spread. Post surgical infections can be very serious. I don't agree with Steve Scalise on anything, but I hope he recovers and perhaps comes to understand how important healthcare without fear is.

I initially bristled at the thought of sending someone home like that. Insurance BS!! I said.

Untill my partner's Nurse Sister commented you are better off getting out of the hospital sooner rather than later due to nasty bugs running around those places.

Drain away! I said.

I disagree with his stated policies, but he's a person. Nobody deserves this. There's time enough to disagree after he's recovered.
