Trump organization renews domain names for potential Russian business

INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS TIMES
06 JUL 2017 AT 08:47 ET

Two days before President Donald Trump's scheduled meet with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, Trump Organization on Wednesday renewed the registration for at least two website domains that refer to its possible ventures in Russia.

The international conglomerate renewed licenses for more than 1,000 website domains in total registered with the organization. The domain names include TrumpTowerMoscow.com and TrumpRussia.com, Politico reported.

Amid deepening investigation into the Russian meddling in the presidential election, this is the first time the company has renewed the two sites related to its ventures in the country since Trump assumed office Jan. 20. While both the websites have not been developed yet, the re-registration hinted the company has not given up on its business interest in Russia. The domain name, TrumpTowerMoscow.com, suggests the organization is planning to set up a Trump Tower in Russia’s capital. The company has previously registered similar domains like TrumpTowerLondon.com.

Trump has not been involved in the business activities of Trump Organization ever since he took office. His two sons handle the daily affairs of the company. After Trump became the commander-in-chief, the company said it would not pursue any new foreign deals while Trump is in office.

However, the president had expressed interest in investing in Russia earlier. He also talked about building a Trump Tower in Moscow. In 1996, during a visit to Moscow, he said he would like to construct a replica of his signature Fifth Avenue skyscraper there. “I’ve always had very successful business relations with Russian,” Trump told Russian journalists in 2008. reports said.
